We are a friendly and accessible community garden, open to all volunteers on Wednesday 10-4. Everyone welcome.

Come find us in Bristol up behind in Horfield Prison, through the gates at the end of Monk Rd BS7 8NE.

If you make pesto without basil, pine nuts or parmesan cheese is it still pesto?!? We think so! This nasturtium and sunflower seed stuff was da bomb 😛😛 sooo green! The mild autumn has sent our polytunnel nasturiams into overdrive! We were also busy fixing and weeding perennial weeds out of the beds ready to mulch them and put then to bed for the winter. We also had our quarterly volunteer meeting and garden walkabout to see where the garden is at. It's such a good way to fill folks in on other folks work and check in all the veg beds and bits and bobs going on in the autumn garden 🍂🍁🌱

Ahhh autumn joys! Can't recommend green tomato salsa more! Chutney is great and all but it does take aaaaages and this dish was ready in 30 mins and such a treat. Yesterday the volunteers were also busy planting out winter salads in the tunnels and top dressing with our delicious looking compost, stroking Harry the cat whonwe didn't see much off in the hot hot days of summer, chopping back brambles and saving seed.

The drought and heatwave meant the harvest from out little trees was probably 20% of the usual. Which is rubbish and scary. Though there was quite a few of windfall apples that were a little bit manky going spare in the allotments so we are making the most of them. The juice was gone in a flash but the chutney and vinegar will keep us going for ages. The sunshine goes into the apples then the sunshine goes into us 😋🍏😋🍎😋🍏

Thank you to everyone who came to the fair! Especially the brave and soggy 30 or so folks who made it along in the first hour as the relentless rains came down! Including a very wet Harry the Cat 😆😆And the 300 folks that came once it was a bit dryer for a lovely day of apples and crafting and music and came. And thanks to all the volunteers who make it possible!

A glorious day of fair prep, garden jobs and autumn sunshine yesterday! And.... we harvested our watermelon! The one and only we managed to grow this year 😆😛😆 and it was delicious with loads of flavour!! We manged to get 16 slices out of it to have with our lunch 😁😁 I thought the hot weather would have been good for our melons but our melons said otherwise and its incredible that our spindly little vine managed to produce even one proper fruit.

Come to the fair this weekend! Loads going on and delicious cakes and samosas and seed saving and music and drumming and making and playing and pressing apples and more all in our gorgeous community garden!

It's our Harvest Fair on Saturday 19th September 1-4!
We'll be weaving willow, vegetable sculpting, and up to all sorts of apple-y fun including getting the apple press out! So if you got any spare apples bring them along and get involved and we can slurp the delicious juice 😛🍏😛🍎😛
They'll be
- arts and crafts from fab local artist Jenni Stuart Artist
- live music from The City Of Bristol Learner Band and What the Folk?!?
- all day fun and bonkers junk drumming to get involved in with Paul Midgley
- 3pm seed saving talk and practical demo from Bristol Seed Swap
And loads of free stuff for kids and cakes and samosas and all in our gorgeous community garden 🌼🏵🌳🍁

Please share widely and bring your friends🥳

Suggested donation on the gate is £2 for adults and £1 for children but money shouldn't be a barrier so please just come in for free if that's helpful!

And just like that all the summer sessions for kids is over and there's are cool breeze and finally some rain in the garden 🥳🥳
Despite the punishing temperatures we've had a great time with the kids with woodwork and tie dye and plum jam and pancakes and sensory play and singing and more. Thanks to all who came to our family SEND days or sent your kids along to the holiday clubs.

Last night Horfield and District Allotment Association 🌱 plotholders had their first social evening here which was lovely with cold drinks and crisps and chatter in the golden evening. Great to meet a few new faces and hopefully there'll be more of them to come

The Wednesday volunteers celebrated the summer season with pizzas and treats but still cracked on with fixing the decking and weeding the beds 🍕🍕🥳🍕🍕
None of our summer sown seeds managed to grow in the heat but there's still time to get winter salads in now its cooled 🌱🌱🌱

Woodworking, pizza and plum cake for the holiday club today. Though top ratter Harry the cat couldn't be tempted into chasing our homemade mice 😆😆😆
