For me, the best feedback doesn't come from forms, it comes when you hear about the seed that was sown in a short course grew into a lasting interest, to deeper study. Something that touched someone's inner being and years later they still talk about, and sow seeds of their own. This is the kind of feedback I hear from people who completed our Introduction to Psychoanalytic Theories and Concepts course.
It's unlike other introductions in that the topics are taught by guest seminar leaders with a real connection with the subject matter, and the seminars are followed by a group discussion, expertly help by a psychotherapist where you can connect the material with the other ideas you have learned on the course, and explore how they appear in your own life, and those of the other group members.
If this sounds good, you can apply online or get in touch - we love to hear from people interested in learning with us.
Bursaries available.

One of our previous students tells us how Work Discussion group helped their work as a therapist within the NHS. Applications open until 3rd July.

I found the Work Discussion Group very helpful in my professional work. Along with the Classical theory pre-clinical course, the Work Discussion Group enabled me to be more effective in 1:1 interactions as well as supporting me to manage my stress levels in handling complex and challenging interactions.
I was working in the NHS mental health services in a lead role for people diagnosed with personality disorder. The Group gave me the opportunity to think in depth about the long term therapeutic work with one of my clients by focussing on and discussing a particular recent session. The discussion helped me to become more aware of the early signs of my client starting to develop a stronger sense of self and capacity for assertion in their life and within the sessions and to reflect on how to support this development. I was happy to note the positive impact that the group discussion had on the therapeutic process with my client.
Through the weekly sessions of the course, I developed a much clearer understanding of transference dynamics and projective identification. This was very useful as in my broader NHS role I was having to handle some tense situations which included some strong verbal criticism of me and my competency as a practitioner. It was through the better understanding of projective identification that I could see that I was being pressured in this situation to feel very difficult feelings such as being small and inadequate or useless which were the very feelings that the person I was interacting with was trying not to feel about themself. Being able to have insight into this meant that I could detach somewhat by identifying less with what was being projected which in turn allowed the process to feel less personal and more manageable. As a result I noticed that my stress levels reduced and I was able to hold on to my thinking capacity even when feeling somewhat confronted.
