MV Balmoral

MV Balmoral Official page of MV Balmoral – heritage coastal cruise vessel We will shortly be launching a fundraising campaign to enable her to cruise our coasts once again.

Owned by the charitable MV Balmoral Fund Ltd the ship MV Balmoral is the last coastal cruise ship of her type. Currently due to lack of funding, the Balmoral is operating as a stationary events and education venue located in Bristol city centre's historic dockside, available to hire for private parties, seasonal events, exhibitions and functions.

We are fundraising for deck repairs.

Over the past 6 years we have been working on the decks on board the Balmoral, starting with the promenade deck where the team have worked through 3/4 of the deck replacing timbers, removing old caulking, recaulking and pouring pitch over seems. You might also remember the complete replacement of the p**p deck in 2023. Well work has slowly carried on. However we have come to do the worst area on the ship starboard side next to the purser office. In this area there is a large amout of planks that need replacing. The timber which is 4inch wide 2.5 inch thick and 18feet long has nearly doubled in price since we started repairing the decks.

Can you help towards the cost of timbers
Follow the link below or go to our website to donate.

Every little bit really does help get the ship closer to sailing again.

We just wanted to share this with our followers, The Ceili House Band are one of the ships big supporters and we have always loved having them on board and young Patrick was a key member of the group until MND made it impossible for him to play anymore. So watching this and seeing him on stage again is wonderful.

Science Cafe

Our speaker on Tuesday evening 2nd June at 1945 is:
Dr Helen Weavers (University of Bristol).

Everyday life exposes our tissues to stress, from injury and inflammation to the byproducts of normal metabolism. Yet most of the time, repair happens efficiently and without us noticing. How do cells and tissues achieve this resilience?

Using cutting-edge imaging, genetics, and studies ranging from fruit flies to human populations, Helen will reveal the hidden defence and repair systems that protect our bodies. Her work connects what happens inside individual cells to the health of whole tissues, with implications for wound healing, ageing, and disease.

Join us aboard the MV Balmoral from 7pm for a 7.45pm start. Tour the ship, grab a drink at the bar, and settle in for a revealing evening.

This is a FREE event — arrive early to get a seat.
