Bristol & the Channel Islands ACF

Bristol & the Channel Islands ACF Welcome to the Official Bristol & the Channel Islands ACF page. Check here for news and photos.

For action and adventure, fun and friendship, the Army Cadet Force is hard to beat. With around 46,000 cadets (aged 12-18) and 8,500 adult volunteers in 1,700 locations in every corner of the United Kingdom, the ACF is one of the country’s largest voluntary youth organisations. It is also one of the oldest and celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2010. We welcome boys and girls from the age of 12 (

and in at least year eight at school), of all abilities and backgrounds, and through a broad range of exciting, challenging, educational and adventurous activities, help them develop physically, mentally and socially. Some of our activities have a military theme, others have more of a community focus. Combining military and community activities in this way enables us to offer our 46,000 young people a unique blend of personal development opportunities, all designed to promote fun and friendship while also helping them prepare for success in their chosen path in life, whatever that might turn out to be.

Recently we had two B&CI ACF cadets attend the ACCT UK awards ceremony.

Cadet Bugle Major Knight- was awarded the ACCT UK award for his exceptional contribution towards music within the ACF. His dedication has inspired others within the battalion to pursue music within the ACF and he has helped grow our Band and Bugles. Earlier this year Bugle Major Knight was also appointed the ACFs National Bugle Major!

Cadet Mills- was awarded the ACCT UK award for his outstanding community service, his hard work and selflessness not only earned him this award but earlier in the year Cadet Mills was awarded the BBC make a difference award in the young hero category!

Well done both of you, what amazing achievements !!

On Tuesday evening we had an amazing opportunity to take a hand full of cadets to have a guided tour of the Masons Lodge!

Following a generous donation that the Lodge made towards DofE within B&CI ACF, the donation they made helps us to ensure all cadets are able to take part in DofE within the ACF!

A huge thank you for the donation and for the tour of the lodge, the cadets got to learn the history of the lodge and understand what the Masons do!

More photos to come 👀

It has been two months since Merseyside Army Cadet Force’s Steve O’Connor began his ‘Challenge 48’. A two-year fundraising challenge that will see Steve run 48 marathons, one for each ACF county, in support of ACCT UK.

This week, Steve heads to North Yorkshire to take on the demanding Yorkshire Three Peaks - a route spanning 38.6 km with 5,200 feet of elevation.

Best of luck, Steve! We're looking forward to hearing how this marathon goes!

Follow Steve’s fundraising page to see which UK route he tackles next, and donate to support his Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge this Sunday: https://givestar.io/gs/48-marathons-48-counties-48-peaks

🚨 New Appointment 🚨

As of 1 June, the role of Detachment Commander at Thornbury Detachment has officially been handed over from WO2 Arnold to 2Lt Mountford.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to WO2 Arnold for his dedication and commitment over the past few years. His leadership, mentorship of both cadets and CFAVs, and contribution to the detachment's success have been invaluable, including helping secure Detachment of the Year 2025.

We wish 2Lt Mountford every success as he takes on the role of Detachment Commander and look forward to seeing what the future holds for the detachment under his leadership.

Congratulations and best of luck in your new appointment! 👏

Congratulations to Army Cadets Northern Ireland 2nd Battalion's WO2 Steven Bain as he concludes the first stage of his fundraising journey today!

Over the last week, Steven has been taking part in the Portuguese Camino - an iconic European pilgrimage in support of ACCT UK, all while raising awareness of men's mental health and walking in memory of Cadet Jaidyn Rice, who tragically passed away in 2025.

Ahead of his journey, Steven explained what inspired him to take on the physically demanding challenge:

"Jaidyn's death has strengthened my determination to take on these challenges and dedicate my time to inspire the youth of today to live life to the fullest, achieve their goals, and play an active role in their communities. Young people are our future, and through the ACF we aim to instil the values that guide everything we do: courage, discipline, respect, integrity, loyalty and selfless commitment."

Not looking to slow down once he returns from Portugal, in August, Steven will be accompanied by a team of 40 Cadets and adult volunteers for their "Centurians' Challenge 26" where the group will walk the full length of Hadrian's Wall in support of ACCT UK. Thank you, WO2 Bain, we are inspired by your dedication to such an important cause!
