𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗬 𝗢𝗪𝗡 𝗟𝗢𝗥𝗗-𝗟𝗜𝗘𝗨𝗧𝗘𝗡𝗔𝗡𝗧'𝗦 𝗖𝗔𝗗𝗘𝗧

Wednesday 30 September was a special evening for four cadets who were officially appointed as Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets during a ceremony in Bristol.

We’re especially proud to see Cadet Sergeant Weir from A Company among those appointed!

Over the next year, Cadet Sergeant Weir will have the opportunity to accompany the Lord-Lieutenant of Bristol, Peaches Golding, at official engagements across the city, representing the Army Cadets and everything our young people have to offer.

It's wonderful to see the hard work and commitment of our cadets recognised in this way, and even better to see the opportunities that being part of the Army Cadets can bring.

A huge congratulations to Cadet Sergeant Weir and all four cadets on their appointments. We hope you enjoy every moment of the year ahead!

𝗔 𝗪𝗘𝗘𝗞𝗘𝗡𝗗 𝗢𝗙 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗚𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗔𝗖𝗛𝗜𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗦 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗕 𝗦𝗤𝗨𝗔𝗗𝗥𝗢𝗡!

Another busy weekend camp for B Squadron, with cadets coming together to progress their training, develop their skills and spend time with their fellow cadets. And there was plenty to celebrate along the way!

From promotions and taking on new responsibilities to receiving iDEA certificates and Duke of Edinburgh's Awards, it was lovely to see so many cadets getting some well-deserved recognition for their hard work.

Weekend camps are a big part of the Army Cadet experience. They're an opportunity to progress through their training, build confidence, develop friendships and put what they've learnt into practice.

A massive congratulations to everyone recognised over the weekend. Plenty to be proud of across B Squadron!

𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗦𝗞𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗦 𝗧𝗢𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗟𝗗 𝗦𝗔𝗩𝗘 𝗟𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗦 𝗧𝗢𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗥𝗢𝗪

First aid is one of those skills you hope you'll never need to use, but having the knowledge and confidence to step in when someone needs help can make all the difference.

It's an important part of what our cadets learn, giving young people the opportunity to develop practical skills that can stay with them long after their time in the Army Cadets.

Earlier this year, Logiq generously donated more than £1,200 worth of first aid training equipment to Bristol & the Channel Islands Army Cadet Force, helping us give our cadets more opportunities to learn, practise and build their confidence through hands-on training.

As we mark National Cadets Week, it's also a good opportunity to recognize the organisations that support our cadets and help make these opportunities possible.

Supporting the next generation through Cadets Week

This year, Logiq was proud to donate more than £1,200 worth of first aid training equipment to Bristol & Channel Islands Army Cadet Force.

The new equipment will give cadets more opportunities to develop their first aid skills through practical, hands-on training- building knowledge and confidence that could one day make a real difference within their communities.

𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗖𝗔𝗗𝗘𝗧 𝗪𝗘𝗘𝗞 | 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗘𝗢𝗣𝗟𝗘 𝗪𝗛𝗢 𝗠𝗔𝗞𝗘 𝗜𝗧 𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗕𝗟𝗘

Every week, across Bristol and the Channel Islands, young people come together to learn new skills, take on challenges, build friendships and experience opportunities they might not otherwise have.

Behind those opportunities are the people who give up their time to make them possible.

Our Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs) come from all sorts of backgrounds, bringing their own skills and experiences to the Army Cadets.

Some spend their evenings delivering training at detachments, others give up weekends or even weeks at a time to support activities and camps. Many also dedicate their own time to attending courses, gaining qualifications and developing the skills needed to deliver these experiences to our cadets.

And then there are those working behind the scenes, organising, planning and making sure everything runs as it should.

Much of that work goes unseen, but it all plays an important part in what we can offer our cadets.

During National Cadet Week, we rightly celebrate the achievements of our young people. But it's also an opportunity to recognise those who support them along the way.

𝗧𝗼 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗹 & 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗔𝗖𝗙, 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂.

For the time you give, the dedication you show and the opportunities you make possible for our young people, thank you. What you do makes a real difference, and we are grateful for everything you continue to give.

𝗠𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗔 𝗗𝗜𝗙𝗙𝗘𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 𝗜𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗬

Lance Corporal Mills is a brilliant example of the difference young people can make in their communities when they are given the opportunity to get involved.

At just 15, Lance Corporal Mills has already made a real contribution to his community, giving his time to help others and earning national recognition along the way.

What makes his story so special is not simply the awards he has received, but the commitment behind them and the difference he continues to make to those around him.

We are incredibly proud to have Lance Corporal Mills as part of Bristol & The Channel Islands Army Cadet Force.

Bristol Cadet overcomes barriers to make a huge contribution to his community

At just 15, Army Cadet Lance Corporal Cameron Mills is already making a remarkable contribution to his community, while proving that the right opportunities can help young people overcome the barriers others place in their way.

A member of the Bristol and Channel Islands Army Cadet Force, Cameron has been recognised for his exceptional commitment to others, including being awarded an Army Cadet Charitable Trust UK Excellence Award for Community Service. He has also received the League of Mercy Diploma for Distinguished Community Service, an award introduced in 2024 and awarded to just 12 Army Cadets to date.

There’s a lot more to being an Army Cadet than what happens on a parade night.

Across Bristol & the Channel Islands, our Cadets get involved in their local communities in all sorts of ways — from supporting events and fundraising, to Remembrance and helping with local projects.

It’s a big part of what the Army Cadet Force is about, and something our Cadets can be really proud of.

And what a way to start the very first National Cadets Week.

His Majesty The King has sent a special message to Cadets, Adult Volunteers, families and supporters across the UK, recognising the difference the Cadet Forces continue to make to young people.

From building confidence and resilience, to learning new skills, making friendships and giving something back to our communities, his message really reflects so much of what being part of the Cadet Forces is all about.

His Majesty also gives special recognition to our Adult Volunteers, who give so much of their time, energy and experience to create these opportunities for our Cadets.

Here at Bristol & the Channel Islands Army Cadet Force, we are incredibly proud of all of our Cadets and Adult Volunteers, and we’re looking forward to celebrating everything they do throughout the week.

From 𝟱–𝟭𝟭 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿, we’ll be joining Cadet Forces across the country in celebrating everything being a cadet and Adult Volunteer has to offer.

With Detachments and Platoons across Bristol and throughout the Channel Islands, we’d love to invite you along to one of our open evenings to meet our Cadets and Adult Volunteers, see what we get up to and find out a little more about life in the Army Cadet Force.

For young people, there are opportunities to make new friends, build confidence, learn new skills and get involved in everything from adventurous training and fieldcraft to DofE, First Aid, BTECs, Music and plenty more — and that’s only a snippet of what’s on offer.

For parents and carers, it’s also a chance to come in, meet the people behind your local Detachment/Platoon, ask questions and see for yourself what your young person could be getting involved in.

𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦 𝗖𝗔𝗗𝗘𝗧 𝗥𝗦𝗠 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗞𝗦 & 𝗖𝗔𝗗𝗘𝗧 𝗦𝗦𝗠 𝗪𝗢𝗢𝗗𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗛 (𝗕 𝗦𝗤𝗨𝗔𝗗𝗥𝗢𝗡)

A few years ago, they were both new cadets starting their journey.

Today, 𝗖𝗮𝗱𝗲𝘁 𝗥𝗦𝗠 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗸𝘀 and 𝗖𝗮𝗱𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝗦𝗠 𝗪𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 hold two of the most senior cadet appointments in Bristol & the Channel Islands ACF.

Their progression has not happened overnight. It has come through taking opportunities, challenging themselves, developing as leaders and gradually taking on greater responsibility.

𝗖𝗔𝗗𝗘𝗧 𝗥𝗦𝗠 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗞𝗦

Cadet RSM Perks joined the Army Cadets in March 2022.

Since then, she has embraced opportunities across cadet life, including achieving her Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in 2023 and successfully completing the Master Cadet Course at the National Cadet Training Centre, Frimley Park, on 10 April 2026.

In August 2026, Cadet RSM Perks was appointed Cadet Regimental Sergeant Major, the most senior cadet appointment in the Army Cadet Force.

There is only one Cadet RSM within an ACF Battalion/County at any one time, making this a significant achievement and a role carrying considerable responsibility. She now acts as a senior link between cadets and adult instructors, while helping to set the example for those following behind her.

Asked what has stood out most during her cadet journey, she said:

💬 “All the friends I’ve made along the way and the Master Cadet Course.”

She is now enjoying visiting detachments across the Battalion and is particularly looking forward to representing the Battalion at the Remembrance Parade.

Her advice to other cadets?

💬 “Stay positive and focused no matter the situations. Everything gets better with time. My final piece of advice would be to take every opportunity that is offered.”

𝗖𝗔𝗗𝗘𝗧 𝗦𝗦𝗠 𝗪𝗢𝗢𝗗𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗛

Cadet SSM Woodworth joined the Army Cadets in November 2021.

Over the years that followed, he steadily progressed through the organisation, developing his leadership, taking on increasing responsibility and continuing to challenge himself within B Squadron.

On 10 April 2026, he also successfully completed the Master Cadet Course at Frimley Park — one of the highest levels of training available to an Army Cadet.

He was promoted to Cadet Sergeant Major in July 2026, before being appointed B Squadron Sergeant Major during Annual Camp in August.

As Squadron Sergeant Major, he now holds the senior cadet appointment within B Squadron, helping to provide leadership, support and direction to cadets across the Squadron while acting as an important link between cadets and adult instructors.

Asked what made him stay with the ACF and continue progressing, he said:

💬 “The challenge and personal experience and development over my four years in the ACF.”

For Cadet SSM Woodworth, completing Master Cadet was one of the standout moments of that journey — taking on greater responsibility, testing himself and meeting cadets from across the UK.

Now, his focus is also on those coming up behind him.

💬 “I’m excited about meeting new people and being a role model to the younger cadets.”

And his advice to anyone thinking about going for promotion?

💬 “Be yourself and always volunteer for different things.”

Neither Cadet RSM Perks nor Cadet SSM Woodworth joined knowing exactly where cadets would take them.

They started where every cadet starts: turning up, learning, getting involved and taking opportunities as they came.

A few years later, they are now among the senior cadet leaders helping to shape the experience of the next generation.

👏 A huge congratulations to 𝗖𝗮𝗱𝗲𝘁 𝗥𝗦𝗠 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗸𝘀 and 𝗖𝗮𝗱𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝗦𝗠 𝗪𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 on their achievements.

Two significant journeys, two significant milestones, and a brilliant example of just how far the opportunities within the Army Cadets can take you.
