📢 Two years ago, on the 28th of March 2023, Coexist first invited Bristol to come together to co-create a movement for sustainable community prosperity, based on the idea of ‘commoning’. This was the launch of The Bristol Commons. Almost 200 people attended this initial launch event, representing over 65 groups and organisations.

From its inception, the Bristol Commons was driven by a desire to reclaim collective power and reshape the system we live in, in response to the staggering imbalance of affluence and influence in our city. It has always been a collaborative movement, shaped by the people within it, shifting as the community’s concerns and circumstances shift, and welcoming in all who wish to create a culture of commoning.

Since its launch, the Bristol Commons has grown and evolved, having engaged over 800 individuals, developed its own governance structure, established three primary active working groups, and begun drafting a manifesto. The Bristol Commons has held five large-scale community gatherings at community hubs across the city, which have focused on cultivating a culture of connection and joy as well as fostering a deeper understanding of the commons as a powerful concept for systemic change.

Now, two years on, we, as Coexist, are returning to the Bristol Trinity Centre, on the 22nd of March, for the Festival of Commoning. ✨✨✨

The Festival will be a landmark moment in the Bristol Commons’ self-organisation, marking an exciting shift in the working relationship of these two organisations. With the movement having evolved, Coexist now (alongside Diverse Artists Network) acts as an anchor organisation, supporting the foundations of the Bristol Commons.

The Festival will be forward-looking, inviting a collective vision for change, but will also be a celebration of the last two years of collaboration and connection. Join us for a vital and hopeful moment in our city’s story - let's come together to reclaim Bristol’s future. ♥️
