Another very busy Heat-SWEP outreach, this time led by Reynolds Leanne, good to see the water fountain which is so useful for anyone with a refillable water bottle. We used all of our sunscreen supplies today & of course all the cold drinks were very much appreciated as were the shorts & t-shirts. We will restock ready for tomorrow when the red weather warning is in place. The team also had some refresher training from Leanne

A very warm outreach this morning but we had additional cold drinks with us, sun cream, a few hats & a fab donation of shorts from Help Bristol's Homeless Charity which were very popular. We gave the standard advice for Heat-SWEP & alerted St Mungo's to anyone who we thought they needed to be aware of. Sadly the vulnerabilities of those on the streets increases in extreme weather. All in all a good morning but bracing ourselves for the increasingly hot weather

Heat-SWEP has been activated in Bristol.

Due to the high temperatures in Bristol, Heat-SWEP will be activated from today. Heat-SWEP does not come with an accommodation offer but we encourage people to access cool spaces away from the heat during the day.

See the below link for some guidance on who is most at risk from the heat and the best advice to give people in hot weather:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/beat-the-heat-hot-weather-advice/beat-the-heat-staying-safe-in-hot-weather

If you see someone sleeping rough, please use Street Link. A reminder that StreetLink is not an emergency service and if someone is in immediate danger, please call 999.

We will announce on our stories when Heat-SWEP has been deactivated across the city or if there is an escalation in response.

Please consider the unhoused as the temperature rises. It is so difficult to get respite from the heat & it really can be dangerous exposed to extreme temperatures

We have recently attended extremely informative & thought provoking neurodivergency awareness training organised by Voscur. It was interesting to hear how partners from The Julian Trust & Street Life manage the challenges front line workers face when supporting neurodivergent clients in vulnerable situations

Homelessness among neurodivergent people isn’t just about housing, it reflects repeated failures across support systems.
