It is with great sadness that Bristol UNISON Black Members raise our fists in salute to the passing of (Ras) Judah Adunbi, Mr. Singh, and Reverend Jesse Jackson.
Two were sons of Bristol, one an iconic voice from America — yet all three touched lives across the globe. In their own distinct ways, each of them shaped history, challenged injustice, and inspired generations to believe in their own worth and power.
They taught us that we are never lesser than anyone else.
That as human beings, we too can reach for the stars — and attain them.
That we carry the ability to uplift others, to create change, and to leave this world better than we found it.
As an alumnus of Operation Black Vote (OBV) — the first in my field — I stand on the foundations they helped build. Their legacies continue in us, in our work, and in every act of courage we commit to.
We say thank you.
We honour you.
And we will meet again.

A group of social workers across two roles in Children's Social Care at Bath & North East Somerset Council are preparing for industrial action, in the absence of agreement from the Council about the unjust and unworkable pay grades and structure. If you can please show your support at their first practice picket:

• Wednesday 14th January 2026 - 7.30am - 8.30am
• Keynsham Civic Centre, Market Walk, BS31 1FS
• We will be going into work afterwards, all together, in a show of solidarity.
• We will have hot drinks, music and snacks!

Thursday 9 October Workplace Day of Action for Palestine
📍Your workplace
🇵🇸 Two days before the national protest on 11th October is the next workplace day of action. Do what you can and encourage your workmates to get involved - lunchtime protests, bakesales, wear badges & Keffiyehs to work, take selfies with Palestine flags & posters - no action is too small. Use the day to try and reach out to friends and colleagues not previously involved in the Palestine movement and help spread the word about the national demo on Oct 11.
*Don't forget to let us know your plans and make sure that you take pictures and videos for social media ( ) on the day. [email protected]

92% vote for strike action at Cathedral Schools Trust ✊🏼

Support staff working for the Cathedral Schools Trust have voted overwhelmingly to strike in a dispute over pay.

More than 100 teaching assistants, administrators, librarians, finance officers, caretakers and caterers will take action at schools across Bristol and North Somerset.

The workers have been missing out on hundreds of pounds every year because of their employer’s failure to implement annual pay awards when they are announced in April.

Instead, Cathedral Schools Trust has delayed these payments until the start of the school term in September, leaving staff without several months’ worth of pay increases compared to colleagues in other schools.
