Ten Tors Participants Receive Certificates
DLV Chris Address:
As in previous years, it is my pleasure to represent the wider district in congratulating you, our participants from Cabot in your endeavours for completing the Ten Tors Challenge earlier this year.
The event encapsulates the many qualities that all in the Scout Association aspire towards; teamwork, perseverance, facing a challenge with a smile and encouraging each other to ultimately cross the finish line united as a team so that you can celebrate as one.
The Ten Tors journey from the first day hike in late October, leading up to the event in May, in my view is nothing short of astounding. The transformation, especially seen within our 35-mile participants is exceptional. They begin their journey as children and cross the finish line as young men and women; with skills that they can utilise for life and in many cases, a passion for the outdoors that stay with them forever.
Of course, this remarkable journey is only half the success story within Cabot’s Ten Tors provision. Behind every participant that completes the challenge are many hours of dedication and hard work given by our adult volunteers who work so hard to support and will them on to the ultimate euphoria of receiving that medal around their necks, knowing that they have helped a young person accomplish one of the biggest outdoor endurance challenges that can be achieve in the UK.
Cabot has always had an exceptionally good record when it comes to those finishing the journey – mostly in one piece – bar the mangled feet, the chaffing in dodgy areas and the aching limbs that accompany the medals proudly displayed for all to see.
It is indeed a team effort all round. A momentous milestone in so many of our young people’s Scouting journeys watched on by proud family members and a coming-of-age experience that stays cemented in your hearts forever.
So, whether you are a participant new to the Ten Tors experience or a veteran participant who completed your 45 or 55 mile hike this time round, all in Cabot district salute your determination, marvel at your physical prowess and are proud to call you our Ten Tors heroes for 2026!
Congratulations!
