This afternoon at Thursday Lunch Club we had another “local interest history talk” titled “Bristol Bamboozled” by local amateur historian William Evans. Williams’s talk explored and explained a series of extraordinary historical frauds, hoaxes, and deceptions that fooled the people of Bristol—from ghostly hauntings and forged medieval manuscripts to fake prophets, invented princesses, and fabricated war heroes. Illustrated with photographs, his talk revealed how even a bustling, commercially savvy city repeatedly fell for some astonishing cons! Thank you William. x

We were delighted to have Hotwells Primary School visit us this afternoon at Thursday Lunch Club, accompanied by their teacher Ms Grimes. The year 6 students performed 2 songs from the musical “Oliver” for us which we thoroughly enjoyed. Afterwards we all settled down for tea and cake and a good ol’ chat sharing generational views on a variety of topics. Thank you! x

Thursday Lunch Club today consisted of meeting and chatting with friends, enjoying a three course home cooked lunch, followed by an “Arts & Crafts” project that we all got our teeth into. Julia had prepared the groundwork (which was not an easy task) and our members produced their artwork with flair and creativity, fun and laughter… followed by tea and cake. A successful day in anyone’s book. As usual, a huge “Thank You” to all our fantastic volunteers who helped the day run smoothly. X

On Thursday at Trinity Lunch Club we had a visit from Elana and Andy from the Bristol Maritime Volunteer Service (MVS). We all learned a great deal about what the volunteers do to ensure public safety in and around the water, and how they support many other community organisations. Thank you Elana and Andy and all the volunteers at Lunch Club who ensured the day ran smoothly.

Today at Thursday Lunch Club we welcomed the choir One Equal Music along with their development officer Josh. Their aim is to widen access to musical opportunities in order to improve wellbeing, foster community and raise confidence. We all very much enjoyed their beautiful singing and loved participating and getting involved. We felt truly uplifted afterwards which proves their ethos works. Thank you to everyone involved. x
