Bristol Association for Neighbourhood Daycare (BAND)

Bristol Association for Neighbourhood Daycare (BAND) BAND is an umbrella organisation which supports and develops childcare provision in and around Bristol.

We provide services to childcare providers, people working with children, families and employers. As well as working locally, BAND also plays an active role in national initiatives in the fields of childcare, play provision and working parents’ issues, working closely with key agencies. Our role continues to expand as childcare provision increases and we act in an advisory capacity for many bodies

, both locally and nationally. BAND provides services to more than 180 Independent member groups that in turn provide childcare facilities to around 10,000 families. Full members are managed by voluntary management committees that include representation from parents/ carers who use the service. Affiliate, Associate and Individual members share BAND’s overall aims and have an interest in the field of play, childcare and related services to children, young people and their families. A breakdown of membership groups show that 65% of member groups come from disadvantaged areas of Bristol. Government support has stimulated the growth in childcare and related services to children and young people. This, and the need to sustain these services, has increased demand for the support that BAND offers. Consequently we have seen a steady growth in requests for support from play and childcare providers and those offering related services to children and young people in the 0-16 age range. BAND services aim to promote and advocate change, educate people about the importance of good childcare, knit communities together, encourage service-user involvement, address social needs, encourage inclusion, mobilise volunteers and most importantly, to help providers achieve sustainability and delivery of high quality services. BAND is a locally rooted charity that is dedicated to sharing interests, networking and working collaboratively and co-operatively with other organisations

Hot Weather - Sources of Advice

Here is the link from the HSE website, which has advice for workplaces and staff - https://www.hse.gov.uk/temperature/employer/index.htm

Here is the link to advice from the UK Health Security Agency looking after children and those in early years settings before and during hot weather - https://www.gov.uk/guidance/looking-after-children-and-those-in-early-years-settings-before-and-during-hot-weather-teachers-and-other-educational-professionals

In case anyone is interested, here is DfE guidance for schools - https://educationhub.blog.gov.uk/2025/06/hot-weather-and-heatwaves-guidance-for-schools-and-other-education-settings/

There isn't a maximum temperature but it has to be reasonable.

There are several ways that schools can make changes to keep children safe in hot weather, especially as children are more at risk of becoming ill with heat-related issues than adults. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has published updated guidance

Unified Youth Voice Micro-Grants

Applications for the micro-grants close on Friday 19th June.

These projects do not need to be stand alone projects and be something that is delivered as part of your current offer of delivery.

As part of the Local Youth Transformation Pilot, young people from 224 Youth Zone have been working together to create a new Youth Voice Micro-Grants programme to help us better understand how children and young people want their voices to be heard across Bristol.
We are really excited to now open applications for the Unified Youth Voice Micro-Grants programme.

The programme will fund a minimum of 12 projects with grants between £500–£1,000 to support creative, youth-led projects across the city.

We are looking for projects that help children and young people share:
• Their experiences and ideas
• The challenges they face
• Their hopes for the future
• What they think needs to change in Bristol
• How they want their voices to be heard and included in decisions across the city

We especially want to hear from children and young people whose voices are not always heard. We are also aiming to fund at least 3 projects in each area of the city to make sure the programme reflects a wide range of experiences and communities across Bristol.
