The GWC is still running off the thrill from IABS and we're certainly no less busy!

Last week, we had a fantastic New Members Night – we got all of our guests singing, most of them tagging, and even a couple of them to the pub 🍻

This week, we hosted a remote BABS quartet prelims session. Thank you Off The Record and Fortuitous for giving us a great show!

We're also working towards our upcoming joint show with Bristol A Ca****la, which even includes a christmas song 😮🎅 Stay tuned for details.

We heard that former GWC member Jeff Ford very sadly passed away last week. Our condolences to all his family and loved ones.

Singing was a huge part of Jeff's life.

Over his 30+ year membership, Jeff was a true legend of the GWC. His dedication and loyalty were right up there with the best. He was in many quartets over the years and was baritone section leader and chairman for a large part of his time with the chorus.

Our remaining members that knew him still have many fond memories of Jeff, including his great sense of humour, the way he always looked out for new members of the chorus, and that he was rarely seen without beaming from ear to ear.

Rest in peace, Jeff!

Wow... What an amazing weekend we just had at the Irish Association of Barbershop Singers (IABS) convention in Killarney! 🇮🇪 🍀

First off, we're all super pleased to have competed in the international chorus competition and come away in 4th place with a score of 81.8! 🎯 Many congratulations to the medalists – 🥇 Rönninge Show Chorus, 🥈 Malmö Limelight Chorus, and 🥉 Mixed Nuts Chorus!

We'd also like to say how proud we are of all the quartets made up of or including GWC members that competed in the international quartet competition ❤️ – Off The Record, In The Wings, Corvus, Chimaera, and Butter Side Up! You guys smashed it 👊 and it's such a privilege to have so much talent in the chorus.

Many thanks to IABS for being such incredible hosts 🍻 This was certainly a convention to remember! Super cool to see, meet, and sing with so many barbershoppers of different nations 💈

We had super fab day of performance coaching yesterday with the wonderful Kirsty Williams! 🕺😎❤️ (in preparation for IABS! 🇮🇪)

Kirsty always has a knack for pulling us out of our comfort zone, but it's always worth it 😁💪

This week, we held a Special General Meeting to issue a change of leadership –

Unfortunately, Mark Tedds made the decision a few weeks ago to step down as Chair of the GWC; but, as of Wednesday, Hayden Cole has been officially voted in as his successor!

Thank you Mark for your dedication to the role over the last few years – supporting the chorus through the transition of appointing a new MD; leading us to our highest ever score at BABS convention; and many other achievements (often behind the scenes), your hard work is now embedded into the GWC!

- As Mark's 'final act' as Chair, he awarded Reg Salway with Lifetime Membership to the GWC. Reg's commitment has been unmatched, with a near-100% attendance rate; his role as Operations Manager; taking care of our risers and rehearsal venues; and much more. -

Congratulations Hayden on becoming our new Chair of the GWC! Hayden already has a clear vision for our future, and we look forward to seeing it.

With a dedicated trip to London, the GWC Music Team spent a thoroughly enjoyable and educational evening observing Meantime Chorus at their rehearsal last night!

We were made to feel incredibly welcome and we’d like to thank Simon and his team for being so open with their time 👊 🫶

Our guys also found a little time for some quick-fire sight seeing en route.📍🚗💨
