Today’s announcement of a social media ban for under-16s is a welcome first step.

At Waldorf UK, we believe equally important is the timing and preparation of young people going online. Our schools have long taken a developmentally informed approach to digital technology, with no screens or personal digital devices throughout early years and primary education, and technology introduced more gradually and critically from secondary school onwards.

We believe stronger protections are needed, but that restrictions alone are unlikely to be enough. Children and young people also need the skills, maturity and understanding to engage with technology safely, confidently and responsibly throughout their lives.

We have shared this view in our submission to the Government’s Growing Up in the Online World consultation.

What does it mean to be a “Waldorf parent”? ✋

Join us for the next ECSWE-ENSWaP Hour as we explore the living relationship between family life, school community, and the developing child.
This webinar invites parents, educators, and school communities into a thoughtful conversation on what Waldorf education asks of parents.

Together, we will reflect on:
🧶 what Waldorf education asks of parents in the early years
🧶 how the role of the parent evolves alongside the child
🧶 how schools can better support families in finding their own authentic place in the community

✋ Speaker: Rachel Ford Blanchard, Lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University specializing in early years and primary science education. Former Head of Early Childhood at Michael Hall School, a Waldorf parent, teacher, teacher-educator.

📅 Wednesday, 20 May 2026, 19:00-20:00 CEST.

To all wishing to come to the Bristol Steiner School Celebration on 13 June

Many thanks to all who have replied and said you will attend this celebration.
We hope it will be a lovely, reflective gathering with many shared memories.

The organisers have now realised that the numbers of those wishing to attend might exceed the 250 allowed in the hall on Redland Green. The regulation about numbers is strictly enforced by the hall owners, and we therefore face something of a quandary.

With our apologies for not making this clear enough, we now need to clarify that booking for this event is essential. If you are passing the word round, please emphasise this point!

We ask that preferably only those who have been directly connected with the school (as children, parents, teachers, staff, founders or trustees) book in for the celebration. The events in the hall will not unfortunately be geared to young children.

For entrance to the hall we are asking a (guideline) fee of £10 to cover costs, cash on the door. Please also bring a contribution to the bring-and-share lunch.

Around the middle of May we will send out a programme for the day to all who have booked in.

With many thanks for your understanding, and looking forward to a lovely celebration
