Affected Others: You're Not Alone

Has someone else's gambling affected you? Our Affected Others Easy Access Workshop runs every Thursday at 1pm online, a supportive session for family, friends and loved ones.

We will explore what being an affected other means, how someone's gambling can impact you, and how to look after yourself.

You do not have to deal with this alone.

πŸ’¬ Talking about gambling harms with someone you love can feel difficult. It doesn't have to be.

We're pleased to introduce Relationship Support β€” a new service offering joint sessions for people experiencing gambling harms, together with the loved ones affected, once you've each completed your individual counselling with us.

It's a safe, non-judgemental space to rebuild trust, improve communication, set boundaries, work through financial concerns and find new perspective, together.

Sessions are 50 minutes, held weekly online, and even a couple of sessions can make a real difference.

πŸ’› "We would only end up arguing if we tried to talk about the gambling. Now we don't."

This September Ara attended Freshers events at University of Bristol, .spa.university, UWE Bristol and University of Plymouth, speaking with more than 1,200 students and collecting over 750 anonymous surveys, to help us better understand their experiences and target our support where it is most needed.

Alongside plenty of sporks and stress balls being handed out, we had some really meaningful conversations about gambling harms, gambling-like activities and the free support available.
We hope that being visible on campus helps make these conversations more normal, reduces stigma and makes it easier for students to seek support when they need it.

We work with universities across the South West of England throughout the year, supporting both staff and students to better understand and respond to gambling harms.

To find out more about the support we can provide, including our University Gambling Harms Toolkit, read our blog post here: https://www.recovery4all.co.uk/supporting-universities-to-respond-to-gambling-harm-new-toolkit-launched/

🎨✨ Celebrating Black History Month! ✨🎨

We had such a wonderful time celebrating Black History Month with our clients through creativity, connection and self-expression. πŸ–€

Our clients were invited to get creative and design their very own tote bags, creating unique and colourful pieces to take home. πŸ‘œπŸŽ¨

It was lovely to see everyone getting involved, sharing ideas and enjoying the activity together. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the event so special! πŸ’›

Today is World Homeless Day - a day to highlight the challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness and the solutions that work.

At Ara, we know that stable housing is the foundation of recovery. That's why our Pathway 4 programme provides Housing First support for people in Bristol - helping them find and maintain a home while addressing gambling, alcohol, drugs or mental health issues.

Housing First works because it recognises that people need safety and stability before they can focus on recovery. Since launching, Pathway 4 has helped change lives.

If you or someone you know is facing challenges with housing and addiction, we can help.

Tomorrow is World Mental Health Day - but let's start the conversation today.

Addiction is a mental health issue. It's not a moral failing, a lack of willpower, or a choice. It's a complex condition that affects the brain, and it deserves the same compassion and care as any other health issue.

At Ara, we understand this. We offer free, confidential support for gambling, alcohol, drugs and mental health - because we know these things are often connected.

If you're struggling, you deserve support. No judgement, no shame - just help when you need it.
