This Volunteers' Week we're celebrating the incredible people who give their time, compassion and commitment to support others.

Every week our Listening Service volunteers help create spaces where people feel heard without judgement. They listen, connect, and offer support during some of life's most difficult moments.

To every volunteer who helps people feel heard when they need it most - thank you. Your contribution makes a real difference.

We're also looking for new people to join our Bristol team.

As a Listening Volunteer, you'll provide compassionate, non-judgemental support to people affected by self-harm and emotional distress. You don't need to have the answers. We provide training, supervision and ongoing support. What matters most is compassion and a willingness to listen.

If you're someone who can listen with empathy and kindness, we'd love to hear from you.

This is your Monday reminder that we're here to listen if you want to talk about self-harm. We're willing to talk about the things that others aren't. If you've been affected by self-harm, speak to one of our trained volunteers tonight from 6-9pm.

This is your Thursday reminder that we're here to listen if you want to talk. On Thursdays our service holds space for women to speak to other self-identifying women. You're not alone.

Living with a debilitating condition like Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS/ME) can affect far more than physical health. Ongoing fatigue, uncertainty, and changes to daily life can lead to feelings of isolation and hopelessness. These experiences are often hidden, as are the realities of these conditions - sometimes described as ‘invisible illnesses’.

Many people living with chronic illness use self-harm as a way of trying to regain a sense of control when everything else feels uncertain or out of reach.

On CFS/ME Awareness Day, we’re sharing a lived-experience piece that explores the connection between chronic illness, mental health, and self-harm, and why compassionate understanding matters: https://sift.org.uk/stories/coping-with-cfs-me/

The right message, in the right place, can make it easier for someone to reach out.

We’ve created free printable and digital materials to help people affected by self-harm find compassionate, non-judgmental support. They’re designed to be simple, clear, and easy to display or share in spaces where people might need them most.

If you’re part of a community hub, school, GP surgery, or any setting where someone might be struggling, you can help make that connection visible.

Download the resources here: https://sift.org.uk/spread-the-word-about-sift/

If you’d like additional materials, or want to share feedback about what would work best in your space, please get in touch: [email protected]

People experience maternal mental health in different ways and at different times. For some, it can bring anxiety, overwhelm, or feelings and thoughts that are hard to talk about.

We recognise that self-harm is sometimes a way to manage these experiences - they are more common than many people realise; they deserve understanding, not judgment.

If you’re struggling, or things feel complicated, our volunteers are here to listen every weekday evening.

Need someone to talk to?

This is your reminder that our Text Support Service is now here for you on Wednesdays and all other weekdays from 6–9pm.

If you’re finding things tough, you don’t have to go through it alone. Just drop us a message during those hours and someone from our team will be there to listen and support. 💛

Pass it on so others know support is available – you never know who might need to see it.
