due to the weather we had a Green Gym change of plan yesterday we cleared some graffiti, some scrub and our smashed compost bin (which was made to help with our reptile surveys) and some of the fire that had been lit on top of our hibernacula. insert rude word of choice.

But the day was made all the better for the delicious almond cakes made by Gail and the number of wildflowers & orchids we found :) and Neil ceremoniously adding the first tea bag to the new compost bin only for it to fly out the other side into a bush. we did not laugh, well not too much πŸ˜‚

tree down at Sherbournes, I've asked SGC to clear as last time we went their boys were already there. seems odd that we're losing so many willows down there.

The public are being asked to give their views on a selection of wildlife, native to the UK, that will appear on the next series of banknotes in a consultation launched today.

Officially pooped is I think the correct term, today in the wind and rain followed by hot sun, one Green Gym team up to the tank bridge to cut back the laurel over hanging the path, one team to the lake to attack the bramble (and it turns out to get interviewed by some school children) and a third to cut back a falling tree on Bradley Stoke Way, got shown a den with bike and barbed wire :( and then off to a huge fallen tree blocking the path at Sherbourne's (although the lovely Sam & Tim got there first, and they had chainsaws so...) also did benches, bins & bridges and ate biscuits & birthday doughnuts. other letters are available :) we hope the 10k goes well on Sunday and 🀞that the lake & underpass don't flood!!

We are consulting on the future of Wick Golden Valley's Local Nature Reserve status - as the site is not council owned and new land owners do not want to a commit to a new Access and Management Agreement.

To find out more and to make any comments, please visit https://orlo.uk/Wick_Golden_Valley_Local_Nature_Reserve_Yp98g

The deadline for responses is midnight on 14 July.

Alternatively you can attend our in person drop in sessions at Wick Village Hall on Thursday 11 June, 4pm to 7pm and Thursday 18 June, 4pm to 7pm.

Green Gym changed plan this week and went into the brook to repair a few berms and dams as was just too hot to do anything else. and in some very big news, we found a juvenile slowworm!!
we used to have a lot but in all of last year just 1 small slowworm was found :( I asked other groups but it didn't seem to be weather based or a national trend just us :( Picture from a few years ago
