When a child is diagnosed with cancer life becomes full of fear, for them and their family. Fear of treatment, but also of families being torn apart, overwhelming money worries, of having nowhere to turn, no one to talk to. At Young Lives vs Cancer, we help families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. Powered by the kindness of our supporters, we’ll face it all together. What a fantastic way to celebrate the start of 2027 – come and join in the fun around 12 noon on the 1st January 2027 in Cornwall!

Lovely to chat with Andy. Since 2021, Andy has organised a memorial cricket match in memory of his Dad Bev which raises funds for Young Lives vs Cancer and St. Luke's Hospice. The matches take place at the Plympton Cricket Club where Andy is Secretary and his Dad, Bev was President during the year he sadly passed away in 2020. The family have been involved with the cricket club since 1988. This year each charity has received a generous £913.

We asked Andy why he chose to support Young Lives vs Cancer and he said that sadly before he was born, his family had two sons and one of them sadly died from leukaemia. The family were supported by Young Lives vs Cancer (CLIC as it then was known as) in Bristol and Andy's parents always supported Young Lives vs Cancer since then.

The annual cricket match and BBQ in Bev's name sounds like it was a brilliant success and Andy said it's his favourite day of the year to have the cricket club packed with so many "old boy's" coming back to enjoy cricket. What a wonderful tribute to Andy's Dad, Bev. Thank you so much for thinking of others affected by childhood cancer once again, we really appreciate your support Andy. 💙

A massive thank you to Simon for organising at Dainton Park Golf Club last Saturday, a wonderful charity golf day. We are very grateful to the generous donation of £900 for Lives vs Cancer . Simon will also apply for a further £300 match funding from his employer Wales and West Utilities. Thank you.

Simon works with Karl whose family have kindly set up a fund page to help children and young people with cancer and their families. It's set up in memory of Karl's son James and you can read more about James here: https://funds.younglivesvscancer.org.uk/jamesmarlow

🌊 The Coastal Commanders, who are taking on the incredible challenge of rowing across the Atlantic Ocean this December, hosted their farewell event at The Wave, Bristol last weekend.

The team is proudly supporting Young Lives vs Cancer, alongside the OddBalls and Move Against Cancer, with all three charities set to benefit from this epic adventure.

It was certainly a fitting venue, with the evening featuring a BBQ, inspiring talks from the three rowers, and even a raffle which raised an amazing £3,000+ 🎉 One of the standout prizes was a pair of return Jet2.com & Jet2holidays flights!

There's not long to go now until they set sail, and we wish them the very best as they embark on this once-in-a-lifetime journey. Stay tuned for updates as they take on the Atlantic! 💪🚣‍♂️

A MASSIVE thank you to Bovey Tracey Golf Centre for their incredible support the last two years. They raised the fantastic amount of £21,339 for Young Lives vs Cancer.
A big thank you to the Seniors Captain, Pete Whitelegg choosing to support the charity after his grandson’s cancer diagnosis.

Pete Whitelegg said: “My grandson, Hugo, was the reason why we chose the charity after he was diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma . I am pleased to say that he is well on the mend having finished his treatment and has now started school.

“I am delighted that so much has been raised for the charity, it’s quite remarkable given the modest size of the club’s membership. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone for their support throughout the last two years in helping to raise funds and awareness for a charity that has supported my family."

The funds were raised by Bovey Tracey Golf Centre through a variety of events including competitions, quiz night, music bingo, raffle and auctions and also the recent Captain’s Charity Day.

Photos also include those taken at the recent Captain's Charity Day. Lovely to meet owner Daniel, Seniors Captain Pete, Dad Aaron, Theo, Mum Lydia, Hugo and Ness the Ladies Captain. Thank you all so much for making a difference and very pleased to hear that Hugo is doing well. 💙

Thank You Thursday 👏

A massive thank you to James, FormusPro, Glasshammer Gaming, and everyone who took part in the recent Magic: The Gathering Lock-In in support of Young Lives vs Cancer.

Through an epic overnight gaming marathon, players came together to raise an incredible £867.50 for children and young people facing cancer and their families. 💛

Thanks to your support, your incredible fundraising could pay for a child or young person to receive support from one of our specialist social workers, helping ensure families don't have to face cancer alone and can navigate the emotional, practical and financial challenges that cancer brings.

We're so grateful for your support and the difference you have helped make. 👏

A huge shout out and congratulations to Aaliyah from Wiltshire who took on the Southampton Half Marathon on the weekend, raising funds in memory of her close family friend, Erin. She said "I am running this half marathon for Erin. For the little girl I grew up knowing, for the young woman she became, for the memories we shared, and for the families who still need the love, care and support that Young Lives vs Cancer provides".

Aaliyah ran the 13.1 miles in the Southampton sunshine, raising an incredible £1,269. This could pay for almost 3 weeks of free accommodation at one of our Homes from Home, like CLIC House in Bristol, which had 154 family stays in 2025/6. Our Homes from Home like CLIC House mean families don't have to worry about affording a place to stay whilst their child is in treatment, and our fab fundraisers like Aaliyah keep them running.

The biggest thank you to Aaliyah for taking on such an incredible challenge for children and young people with cancer ❤️

It was lovely to be in Cornwall by Newquay Harbour at the weekend and see the famous spot where the annual Newquay DIP for CLIC Young Lives vs Cancer takes place, raising funds for Young Lives vs Cancer . This fantastic event organised by Andy Cole and Jos Cole with the help of others takes place on New Years Day 1st January 2027 and has been organised since 2012 in memory of their daughter Harriet who sadly passed away at home in Newquay in 2004 aged 13 years old. 💙

Mum Jos said: “Living in Newquay, being able to stay in one of Young Lives vs Cancer’s “Homes from Home” meant it was the most amazing help for at least one of us to be with Harriet constantly which meant she didn't have to face anything on her own.” Apart from a couple of years due to Covid this lovely family have have managed it ever since making 2027 the 14th DIP!!

What a fantastic way to celebrate the start of 2027 – come and join in the fun around 12 noon on the 1st. It will look a bit different to the photos below!

What would we do without our fab volunteers?
A big thank you to Wendy from Chippenham, who has been out and about emptying Young Lives vs Cancer collection tins. A BIG thank you to the following shops in Chippenham: Fruit and Vegetable Shop for £30.35, Rivo Lounge for £63.62 and Sarah-Jayne's Cafe for £55.95.

This total of £149.92 could pay for a family to stay two nights in CLIC House, our "Home from Home" in Bristol and pay for 9 books to help explain cancer more clearly to a child.

Wendy is involved with Young Lives vs Cancer after her grandson Eddie and family received support from the charity. So lovely to hear that Eddie has started reception last month and sending him our love and best wishes for a good first term at school! 💙
