Doing something creative with others has proven to take people’s minds away from the stress of the world.

Just being with peers who are supportive, where you can chat or just be silent together, and simply being in the same space doing the same things can help curb loneliness.

Our Engagement Activity Team recently visited ‘Flying Saucers’, where young people took part in a calm and contemplative creative session.

One young person reflected:

“Loneliness doesn’t always mean you’re alone. It can mean being so involved in other people’s lives that you forget to take time for yourself, and this can make you feel lonely. It’s really important to take time for you and enjoy it.”

Loneliness is all around us, even when it isn’t always visible.

In this short reel, young people share their experiences of loneliness, what it can feel like, and the advice they would give to others who might be going through something similar.

You are not alone.

This , we’re standing alongside young people who have had to leave their home countries and rebuild their lives in the UK.

This year’s theme is “Courage” - recognising the strength it takes to rebuild life in a new country, often without the support systems many of us take for granted, and in the face of uncertainty and significant challenge.

The young people we work with through our Asylum and Refugee Team are some of the most vulnerable we support, often arriving alone, in unfamiliar places, and needing to learn the basics of everyday life from scratch.

One young person shared:

“When I came to the UK I didn’t speak any English or understand even how to buy food or use transport. I felt nervous to go outside.”

Alongside this, he has been supported to settle into daily life, building confidence with transport, understanding safety in Bristol, and learning how to navigate systems many of us would consider routine.

Refugee Week is a reminder of the importance of welcome, support, and community for young people rebuilding their lives from the ground up.

This week marks , and we're proud to support this year's theme: Giving Loneliness a Voice.

Loneliness is a normal human emotion, yet many people still feel unable to talk about it. For the young people we work alongside, feelings of loneliness and isolation are especially common, often linked to experiences of trauma, unstable housing, poor mental health, leaving care, or being disconnected from support networks.

That's why creating opportunities for connection matters. Throughout the week, we'll be hosting activities and creating spaces for young people to come together, build relationships, share experiences and feel connected.

Because giving loneliness a voice is often the first step towards connection 🫶🏻

Still got that adventure on your bucket list? Here's your chance.

Trek to Mount Toubkal, North Africa's highest peak at 4,167m, through the High Atlas Mountains and reach a summit with views stretching to the Sahara. It's challenging, it's rewarding, and it's in aid of young people facing homelessness.

A £395 registration fee gets you started; then fundraise £2,100 for 1625 Independent People (or choose our self-funded option).

Limited spaces available. Email [email protected]

It was fantastic to welcome such a diverse group of partners to learn more about the project, explore the building and hear about the vision for its future.

We had some great conversations throughout the afternoon and it was inspiring to see so much interest, enthusiasm and willingness to get involved. The future of Kingsley Hall will be shaped through collaboration, and it was wonderful to begin exploring how we can work together to create lasting impact for young people and the wider community.

Thank you for giving us your afternoon and for sharing your ideas, insights and support. We're excited to continue these conversations, build new relationships and develop partnerships as the project moves forward.

Meet Mia.*

When Mia first joined Reboot, she was struggling with anxiety and facing some big decisions about her future.

Fast forward to today, and she's attending college, has secured her first job, is building her independence, and recently told us she feels ready to "fly the nest."

Her story isn't about one big turning point. It's about the many small decisions, challenges and steps forward that helped her get to where she is today.

We're incredibly proud to have supported Mia as she built a life for herself in a new city and made choices that felt right for her.

Last week, young people at 1625 took part in a feedback session with Akou and LandAid, sharing their thoughts on a new Employability Toolkit designed by young people, for young people. 💬

Participants explored the toolkit, discussed what they liked, what could be improved, and shared ideas for how it could better support other young people into employment and training.

Alongside practical feedback, conversations also reflected some of the wider realities young people are navigating when it comes to employment, confidence and opportunity.

It was a great opportunity for young people to have their voices heard and contribute their experiences to a resource designed to support their peers.

A big thank you to Akou and LandAid for involving our young people in the process and giving them the opportunity to help shape this resource.
