🏔️ SARAID volunteer Steve Perkins is taking on the Himalayas! 🇳🇵

While most of us are going about our daily lives, Steve Perkins is currently out in Nepal trekking towards Everest Base Camp and proudly flying the SARAID flag along the way! 🚩

Steve has shared these incredible photos from Camp 2 at 3,400 metres, with the breathtaking Himalayan mountains providing the backdrop. And yes, that’s Everest on the left! 🏔️

But this challenge is about more than reaching the mountains. It’s an opportunity to raise vital funds for SARAID and support the work of our dedicated volunteers, who train to respond when disaster strikes and communities need help most.

We’re incredibly proud of Steve for taking on this adventure and helping to raise awareness and funds for our charity. 💙

𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝗯𝘆 𝗽𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲, 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁.

Last week, brought SARAID volunteers ⛑️ together with partners and emergency response colleagues Search and Rescue Dog Association Ireland North 🐶 and Avon Fire & Rescue Service 🚒 for five demanding days at the Capita The Fire Service College.

For our 2025 cohort, it was the culmination of two years of training 🎓
For the 2026 cohort, it was an opportunity to establish and test their Base of Operations and experience the realities of operating in a demanding USAR environment 🏕️

Across the exercise, we tested our Reception Departure Centre, USRA Coordination Cell, Base of Operations and USAR operations ⚙️, challenging teams to communicate, 📡 adapt and make decisions under pressure.

As SARAID National Director, Gary F. FInSTR. DipFHID. DipEP. AIETecRI reflected, an Operational Assessment is about more than simply passing an exercise ✅. It is about “testing ourselves realistically, identifying where we can improve and building confidence that our people are prepared to operate safely and effectively when communities need us most”. 💭

A huge thank you to our Exercise Control team, assessors, casualties, role players and everyone working behind the scenes — and to Makita UK, Endurance Tents, Honda, MSA - The Safety Company and FirstLook 360 for their support in providing us the kit to train and respond! 🤝

Five days of challenge, learning and collaboration — bringing people together and strengthening our readiness for when it matters most.

Train hard. Learn constantly. Be ready. 💪

If you are joining us today, as always you must not wander off or warm up outside our allocated area. Once youve parked up please stay in the briefing area until the event starts. You will see Saraid are in the middle of an International Search and Rescue Exercise and have a base camp set up. We will be running around them but please avoid this area until the supervised event starts. Thanks RD Bry.

25 years on, we remember. 🕊️

Today marks 25 years since the devastating attacks of 11 September 2001.

We remember the 2,983 men, women and children who lost their lives. We remember their families, friends and loved ones, and all those whose lives were changed forever.

We remember the survivors. Those who lived through the attacks and their aftermath, and those who continue to carry the physical and emotional impact of that day.

We also remember the emergency responders, search and rescue teams, the medical personnel and volunteers who ran towards danger to help others. Many making the ultimate sacrifice.

For those of us working in emergency response and search and rescue, the events of 9/11 remain a profound reminder of the courage, compassion and selflessness shown in the face of unimaginable circumstances.

25 years on, they are not forgotten. 🕊️

🇮🇩 Indonesia earthquake

We are closely monitoring reports following a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake off the coast of Flores, Indonesia.

The earthquake has caused significant damage, with buildings reported collapsed and casualties confirmed. A tsunami warning was issued and subsequently lifted, while local authorities and emergency services continue to assess the situation and respond.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected, including those who have lost loved ones, been injured or displaced.

SARAID continues to monitor developments and stands ready to support where our expertise may be required.

A powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake has struck off the coast of Indonesia, with buildings and homes collapsing. A number of people are feared dead with search and rescue operations underway. Follow the latest below.

🇨🇴 Colombia Earthquake Update

SARAID is closely monitoring the situation following the powerful earthquake that struck Colombia today.

Our thoughts are with those affected, their families and communities, and the emergency responders working across the affected areas.

We are keeping a close eye on the situation by monitoring developments and assessing any emerging response needs.

A 7.4-magnitude earthquake has hit Colombia, the strongest quake in the South American country in a decade - causing buildings to collapse, sparking evacuations and killing more than 100 people. The government has declared the crisis a "national disaster". Follow the latest.
