We are growing — and we’re looking for a Head of Programmes to lead and shape our delivery of environmental and community-based initiatives across the Bristol Avon catchment.

If you’re passionate about delivering large-scale environmental impact, building strong partnerships and leading programmes that support healthier rivers, thriving nature and resilient communities, we’d love to hear from you.

From river restoration and natural flood management to climate resilience, nature recovery and community engagement, this role will play a key part in driving our mission forward.

Take a look at what we have been up to in Queen Charlton!

Working closely with landowners, we have now completed a large-scale natural flow management project to slow the flow of water and to begin restoring a degraded stream system.

We would like to thank the landowners for their support on this project, the Environment Agency for funding the works and all our volunteers for making this work possible.

We've been out and about around Bristol and the surrounding areas over the last few weeks delivering riverfly training to our new riverfly monitors.

Riverfly monitors play an integral part in helping us understand river health in the catchment by recording and reporting invertebrate numbers and we are delighted that so many people have signed up to volunteer. Thank you to all those who have attended training sessions!

BART had a wonderful day out on the River Frome with primary school children dipping for river invertebrates. We found burrowing mayflies, swimming mayflies, flatworms, freshwater shrimp and cased caddisflies!

Experiences such as these can enhance children's connection to nature. As David Attenborough said ‘no one will protect what they don’t care about; and no one will care about what they have never experienced.’

BART and contractors, Practicality Brown, have been busy creating a wildlife pond at Wellow Brook walk in Midsomer Norton.

We’re delighted to say the pond, along with a multi-user dipping platform is now complete and the pond will soon be planted up by local volunteers making it more attractive for wildlife. We're so excited to see how this space transforms over the next few months!

Thanks to Somer Valley Rediscovered and West of England Combined Authority for the funding to enhance our green spaces.
