Avon Scouts

Avon Scouts Scouting is about personal development through providing opportunity. We call this everyday adventure. They just call it fun.

Skateboarding, climbing, art, kayaking, camping, sailing, cooking, orienteering, acting, cycling, hiking, grass sledging, potholing... Scouting is all these things, and more. It encourages young people of all backgrounds, male and female, to have self-belief and a voice; to develop physically, intellectually, socially and spiritually.

👑 Celebrating Our King’s Scouts at Windsor Castle

Six incredible young people from our county had the honour of attending the Day of Celebration at Windsor Castle, recognising their achievement of the prestigious King’s Scout Award.

This award doesn’t come easily. It takes commitment, resilience, and a lot of hard work over many years. And honestly… you can feel that when you see them standing there, proud but probably a bit overwhelmed too.

We couldn’t be prouder of what they’ve achieved. They represent everything that’s great about Scouts.

🌟 Local Scouts Making a National Impact 🌟

Over the weekend, Scouts featured one of our own, Fosse Way Explorer Scout Unit and honestly… it’s worth a read.

This inspiring partnership between Fosse Way School and Wansdyke District Scouts shows what happens when people come together with a shared goal: making Scouting accessible to every young person.

From campfires and cooking to archery and outdoor adventure, the unit is creating opportunities for young people with additional needs to be part of something bigger — building confidence, friendships, and skills for life.

What really stands out?
Not just the activities… but the atmosphere. Inclusive. Supportive. Thoughtfully adapted so everyone can take part and thrive.

Even Ofsted recognised the impact, highlighting the “wide range of new opportunities” and the chance to feel part of a wider community.

This is what Scouting at its best looks like.
Local volunteers. Strong partnerships. Young people at the centre of it all.

We’re incredibly proud to see this happening in our County 💚

🌟 Avon Scouts County AGM 2026 🌟

We’re excited to share that this year’s County AGM is set!

Join us on Tuesday 21st July 2026 at 7:30pm at The BAWA Club, Bristol for an evening that brings it all together, the moments, the milestones, and the people who make it happen.

It’s a chance to pause (just for a bit), look back at what’s been achieved across the County, and maybe feel a little proud of the part you’ve played in it too. Then… we look ahead.

Whether you’ve been involved all year or just dipping in and out, you’ll be very welcome.

One week to go.

That’s it.

A week until Adapting the Adventure — a space to pause, share ideas, and figure out how we make Scouts work for everyone (without losing the fun, the chaos… or the adventure).

If you’ve ever wondered:
“Am I doing enough?”
“Could I do this better?”
“Where do I even start?”

You’re not alone — and this session is for you.

Expect real conversations, practical ideas, and support you can actually take back to your section next week.

📍 Woodhouse Park Activity Centre
📅 Wednesday 22nd April 2026
⏰ 7.30pm – 9.30pm

Come as you are.
Leave with a few more ideas (and probably a bit more confidence too).

🎙️ Avon Scouts on Air – Tune In This Saturday!

This Saturday, our Lead Volunteer Clive Sandrey will be live on Thornbury Radio Thornbury, chatting with David Wrench about all things Scouts, from the life-changing impact on young people to the incredible role our adult volunteers play across Avon (and especially in Thornbury!).

We’re not entirely sure what he’ll be asked… but one thing’s certain, it’ll be a brilliant chance to hear why volunteering with Scouts really matters.

📻 Tune in between 12:00–14:00 on Saturday 18th April and show your support!
Whether you're already part of Scouts or just curious, it’s well worth a listen.

🌙 Scouts Conquer the Night at TreQuinox Hike 2026 🌅

What an incredible achievement by Scouts and Explorers from across Bath, Wiltshire and Bristol as they took on the TreQuinox Hike on 21st March — a challenging overnight 21-mile adventure from sunset to sunrise.

With over 200 young people walking through the night, supported by 50 amazing leaders, volunteers and parents, this event was a true display of resilience, teamwork, navigation skills and determination.

Huge congratulations to Storm Young Leaders, who claimed the Explorer Trophy in an outstanding 6 hours 35 minutes, and to 21st Larkhall Scouts, who took top place in the Scout category with an impressive 8 hours 44 minutes.

Bath Scouts want to say a massive thank you to everyone who made this possible, from checkpoint teams and control staff to the fantastic support from Marshfield Cricket Club and Weston Methodist Chapel.

This is what Scouting is all about — adventure, confidence, teamwork and young people discovering just how capable they really are.

💚 Save the date for next year: 20th March 2027
Who’s ready to take on the challenge again? Tag your group, leaders or walking team below and start planning now.
