Celebrating 20 years of supporting people with Parkinson’s
At the Bristol Branch PUK meeting on Saturday 3rd October, there was a rather special anniversary to celebrate.
It was 20 years since Kevin first began working as a Parkinson’s Support Worker for the Bristol branch of Parkinson’s UK - the beginning of a journey that would eventually lead to the creation of Face2Face Parkinson’s.
Over those 20 years, Kevin has supported Parkinson’s clinics, spent 10 years working at the Brain Centre on an honorary contract and, perhaps most importantly, spent countless hours talking to, listening to and learning from people living with Parkinson’s and their families.
As Kevin wrote in the message he shared at Saturday’s meeting:
“You’re the experts. I am grateful and privileged to have learned from you, shared solutions and experiences, laughed and cried with you.”
That philosophy is very much at the heart of Face2Face Parkinson’s today; bringing people together, sharing experiences and recognising that sometimes the most valuable support comes simply from having the opportunity to sit down with someone who understands and listen to one another.
Or, as Kevin puts it rather perfectly:
“None of these experiences can be found in books or online. Face2Face is the only way. It’s the human way.”
Congratulations Kevin on an amazing 20 years, and thank you for everything you have done - and continue to do - for our Parkinson’s community.
