Now in occasional use for promoting related housing/gentrification/development/community activity. We think communities work! #
We believe in community lead development! The Carriageworks and Westmoreland Site presents an opportunity to build a development which could serve the needs of multiple local communities. Affordable, Social and Alternative housing solutions. Markets, local commerce and c
ommunity spaces. Sustainably designed with provisions for local food production. Let us be imaginative about a huge area of bristol which is at the centre of multiple communities. The Carriageworks is a historical building on Stokes Croft that has remained disused for over 25 years. Over years local groups have been putting pressure onto the owners to release the building to the community via a compulsory purchase order. With plans to transform the space, providing for affordable housing, community and commercial spaces, this was set to be a lasting achievement for the various communities involved. As this process was drawing to the end a new player entered the game with the hope of transforming this site into high end flats. In order to resist this proposal this group has been formed. Following recent inspiring campaigns in the UK, i.e the Aylesbury estate, the New Era estate, and focus E15, we know that our concerns are felt across the country. This is a local example of a global problem. This page is a forum for the organisation of the movement. Please post your contributions here and we will try to find you the resources you require.
