✨ Spotlight on Connection and encouragement at Proximity and Priority Communities Curry Night ✨

Those serving in urban and disadvantaged communities came together for an evening of fellowship, worship and encouragement at the Proximity and Priority Communities Curry Night. Hosted by Proximity in partnership with the Diocesan Priority Communities Network, the event created space for leaders to connect with one another whilst sharing experiences from their ministries.

The evening also featured talks from Natalie Williams (Jubilee+), Sam Ward and Tom Grant (Proximity), who shared wisdom, practical insights and stories of mission in local communities before the gathering closed in worship and prayer.

On Saturday 10th October we’ll be gathering at Bristol Cathedral to celebrate the licensing of eight new Licensed Lay Ministers (LLMs).

✨Meet the LLM Licensees 2026✨

On Saturday 10th October we’ll be gathering at Bristol Cathedral to celebrate the licensing of eight new Licensed Lay Ministers (LLMs).

Leading up to the day, we’ll be introducing each of them. Please join us in praying for them as they step into this new chapter of ministry with faith and dedication.

📸September Wrapped: Snapshots from across the Diocese ✨

1/2. Proximity and the Diocesan Priority Communities Network brought together leaders serving in urban and deprived communities for an evening of curry, connection and encouragement. 🥘

3. A week-long Turin Shroud exhibition at St Gregory’s Church, Horfield invited the local community to explore the science, history and faith surrounding this fascinating and much-debated artefact. 💡

4. St Paul's, Southville hosted BS3 Jammin’, a community weekend bringing people together to make the most of surplus locally grown food. From cooking and apple pressing to preserving, competitions and crafts, the event celebrated local produce while helping to reduce food waste and raise money for the BS3 Community Food Bank. 🫙

5. Churches across Chippenham came together to celebrate the launch of the new Chippenham Mission Area, marking a new commitment to working together to grow God’s mission across the town.🪴

6. Members of Swindon Deanery Chapter came together for a Walk & Lunch, sharing time, conversation and fellowship. The day also included the commissioning of Sally Robertson and Elveen Mead as Co-Area Deans by the Ven Christopher Bryan, Archdeacon of Malmesbury. 🥾

7. 31 parish officers came together for a practical day of workshops and conversations designed around the challenges they face in their roles, from accounting software to navigating the Charity Commission. 🤝

8. Four new Honorary Canons were installed at Bristol Cathedral during Choral Evensong on 27 September, recognising their Christian leadership, service and expertise. 🎉

Today is Homelessness Sunday. How can our churches help build communities where everyone has a place to belong?

This year’s theme, ‘Community Cohesion’, invites churches to pray, reflect and think about how they can help alleviate homelessness, suffering and poverty in their own communities.

Housing Justice has created prayers, hymns, reflections and practical resources to help churches take part and consider how they can make a difference locally.

🙏 A special Homelessness Sunday service, recorded by Housing Justice for the Church of England’s online service channel, is also available to stream from 9am today. You can find the link on the Housing Justice website alongside their other resources.

Whether you’re joining the online service, marking the day in your own church or taking time to reflect individually, today is an opportunity to consider how we can help create communities where everyone is welcomed, supported and valued.

What can working with the land teach us about faith? This Harvest, three people with a close connection to farming and creation share how drought, changing seasons and the everyday rhythms of growing food have helped them see their dependence on God in new ways.

From noticing the first shoots of a new season to facing the uncertainty of a difficult harvest, their stories offer honest reflections on gratitude, hope and caring for creation, and how these experiences can bring us closer to God.

Revd Ross was licensed by The Rt Revd Neil Warwick, Acting Bishop of Bristol and Bishop of Swindon, at Holy Cross, Sherston on 28 September 2026.
