We’re proud to continue supporting Alive Activities BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) Elders Health & Wellbeing Project for another year, alongside The Grateful Society and The Anchor Society as part of the Bristol Older People’s Funders Alliance.

This project has been a lifeline for older Black and ethnic minority communities in Bristol - boosting mental and physical health, reducing isolation, and creating vital connections. Led by elders themselves, the groups offer activities, trips, and support that make a real difference.

The Grateful Society is delighted to welcome Kirsty Swan as our President for 2025 to 2026.

Some words from Kirsty

“I feel privileged to take on this role for the year ahead. I am committed to shining a light on the incredible work our Society does to reduce loneliness and isolation among older adults. Across our communities, too many older people face each day without company or meaningful connection. Loneliness is far more than a feeling. It affects physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing, and it can lead to serious health challenges.

Every person deserves to feel included, valued, and listened to. At the Grateful Society, we support around 30 volunteer led partner organisations that offer vital services to older adults across Bristol and the surrounding areas. Our annual fundraising appeal helps keep this work going, and we rely fully on the generosity of donors. Times are tough for many right now, and as support from elsewhere continues to fall while the number of older people grows, the need for help becomes even more urgent.

Your support makes everything possible. Every donation, small or large, helps us reach more people and strengthen the work of our partner organisations. Together, we can shape a future where no older person feels forgotten or alone.

Let us keep building a community where everyone belongs and where later life is filled with purpose, connection, and joy.

Thank you for your continued support. Together we are changing lives one moment at a time.

With gratitude and hope,

Kirsty Swan

President 2025 to 2026”

One of the wonderful organisations supported by The Grateful Society is Brislington Kurling Club.

This lovely group of around 20 members meets regularly to enjoy fun, friendship, and games.

Our recent grant has helped them with:

✔️ Replacing worn-out equipment
✔️ Covering venue hire
✔️ A much-loved summer picnic — complete with games, laughter, and lots of smiles (as seen in the photo!)

Groups like this offer more than just activities, they provide connection, companionship, and a reason to get out and stay active.

💙 Your donations to our annual appeal help fund brilliant community groups like Brislington Kurling Club, supporting the wellbeing and independence of older people across Bristol and the surrounding areas.
