The weeks are flying now it's no longer winter, and it’s just over a week before we’ll next be meeting at Silver Street, on Friday 24th April, when our guest poet will be Rachel Carney.
Rachel is addicted to poetry, art and academia. Her poetry collection Octopus Mind, published by Seren Books, plays with rich and original metaphors to explore the intricacies of neurodiversity, perception and creativity. It was selected as one of The Guardian’s Best Poetry Books of 2023. She teaches creative writing at Aberystwyth University and Cardiff University, and is currently writing a book about the relationship between poetry and visual art. She won the Pre-Raphaelite Society Poetry Competition and was voted runner up in the Bangor Poetry Competition in 2021. She blogs at www.createdtoread.com.
As usual, our session will run from 12.30 to 2pm, with a suggested entrance charge of £4 or what you can afford.
We aim to offer everyone who turns up with a poem a slot, but please be aware that we have a maximum of 24, allotted on a first come, first served basis, so make sure you get your name put on the list upon arrival. One poem each, please, and no longer than 40 lines.
Shorter poems are very welcome, as are attendees who just want to listen!
Our venue, St Stephen's Church, can be entered either from St Stephen's Avenue, through the dark blue doors in the porch at the base of the tower, or through the cafe. The building is accessible to wheelchair users; please see St Stephen’s website for further details: https://www.saint-stephens.com/your-visit.
Refreshments are available from the Secret Cafe on site, or you can bring your own.
Looking forward to seeing you there.
