📜 Centuries of stories.

The Smyth family called Ashton Court Mansion home for over 400 years, with centuries of history before that . In that time it was extended, altered and reimagined - so today it's a unique patchwork of architectural styles, each one a layer of Bristol's history.

It's Grade I listed. One of the most significant historic buildings in the region.

And right now, 75% of it is derelict.

We think the time is right for community ownership of Ashton Court Mansion. So we're doing something about it.

Follow along as we share more of the mansion's incredible story - and the new chapter we're writing together. 🏛️

✨ Imagine this.

A sun-filled, restored long gallery hosting a community feast. A studio space where Bristol creatives make their best work. A kitchen running skills workshops. Gardens teeming with biodiversity. A bar. A wedding. A school trip. A gig.

All under one historic roof. Owned by the community it serves.

That's what Ashton Court Mansion can be. Not a museum piece - a living, breathing part of life in Bristol and the West of England.

This is what we're working towards. And it starts with you.

🏛️ An exciting update on Ashton Court Mansion — here's where we are!

It's been a busy start to 2026 for Bristol Historic Buildings Trust and we wanted to share exactly where we are on our journey to bring Ashton Court Mansion into community hands.

Since January, we've had a Licence and Memorandum of Understanding with Bristol City Council, allowing us to carry out critical repairs, surveys and investigations — and we've been in constructive discussions about a 125-year lease, which we hope to have in place by Autumn 2026.

This spring, we're hoping to extend that licence so we can begin taking over the day-to-day running of the mansion, welcoming community groups, hosting events and starting to bring this incredible building back to life.

We're also transitioning from a Charitable Company to a Charitable Community Benefit Society - a structure that truly reflects who we are and what we stand for. And crucially, it means we can launch our Community Share Offer in July 2026, giving everyone the chance to have a real stake and a say in the mansion's future.

75% of this Grade I listed building is currently derelict. That's not a reason for despair — it's a reason to act.

With your support, we can restore Ashton Court Mansion as a living civic space for heritage, creativity, culture, food, nature and skills. For Bristol. For everyone.

More updates coming soon. Watch this space. 👀
