Today is World Hypopara Day. One year on, the Hypopara Butterfly continues to be a powerful symbol of the lived experience of hypoparathyroidism, capturing the complexity behind what clinicians see on paper. 🦋

As healthcare professionals, we know this condition is rarely one-size-fits-all. Initiatives like the butterfly help bring real patient experiences into focus, enriching our understanding beyond biochemical results.

In the latest Seeds of Change: Expert Views on Hypoparathyroidism series, an awareness campaign by Ascendis Pharma UK, supported by the Society and Parathyroid UK, our Nurse Committee Chair, Helen Loo, explores a critical insight:
When ‘In Range’ Isn’t Enough: The Importance of Quality of Life in Hypoparathyroidism

Despite being “in range”, many patients continue to face significant physical, cognitive and emotional symptoms that often go unrecognised.

Today, Friday 29 May 2026, is Addison's Disease Day!

A day for all those affected or supporting people with primary (Addison's), secondary, or tertiary adrenal insufficiency. The theme for Addison's Disease Day 2026 is ‘Turn Awareness into Action’, a call to move beyond knowing and into doing. Because awareness alone isn't enough. It's what we do with that awareness that saves lives, supports our community and drives meaningful change.

Here's how you can take action right now:
• Sign up to the free healthcare professional newsletter, ADSHG Connection
• Provide your patients with the new SfE endorsed leaflet “Adrenal Insufficiency Action Plan”
• Run an awareness stand in your hospital to educate colleagues on the needs of steroid-dependent patients
• Support emergency hydrocortisone injection training for patients
• Signpost your patients to the new research study ‘Prevention and Management of Adrenal Crisis’

Adrenal insufficiency is frequently mistaken for other diagnoses and adrenal crisis remains a life-threatening but preventable risk. So whether you're directly affected or simply passionate about raising awareness and improving care, get involved with the Addison’s Disease Self-Help Group (ADSHG) this !

Thyroid disorders are common – with up to 67% of people developing thyroid nodules detectable by ultrasound, and around 3,900 new thyroid cancer cases diagnosed in the UK each year.

Early detection, accurate diagnosis and expert treatment are vital. That’s why specialist training for clinicians, from advanced ultrasound skills to safe, effective treatments like radioiodine, is so important in delivering high-quality patient care.
