Here is what our Squirrels and Beavers got up to in our latest sessions!

Squirrel Drey
Our Squirrels spent time exploring emotions last week, sharing what makes them feel happy, sad, angry, and calm. They also took on some important practical learning with the Green Cross Code, running through the five key steps to cross roads safely with an adult. Later in the evening, they teamed up to lay out ropes on the floor to form the Scout emblem, and we chatted about the Golden Acorn - the ultimate award for completing all Squirrel challenge badges, which got everyone really motivated!

Beaver Colony
The Beavers started working towards their Experiment Badge, as decided by the group last session. They built and launched straw rockets, learning how the air force from their breath propels the rocket forward. Afterwards, they turned their attention to knot tying - practising the reef knot and learning a figure of eight. The best part of the night was seeing the Beavers who caught on quickly patienty teaching and encouraging those who needed extra hand.

Last night was all about sharing, working together, and plenty of excitement across our sections!

In the Squirrel Drey, our youngest group took their gentle first steps toward their World Membership Badge. Guided by our Team Lead, they practiced repeating the Squirrel Promise line-by-line: "I promise to do my best to be kind and helpful and to love our world." We explored all the badges they can earn, and each Squirrel drew their absolute favorite. The biggest thrill of the evening was discovering the Golden Acorn - the top award earned after completing all challenge badges! To wrap up, they started learning the basics of tying a reef knot.

Over in the Beaver Colony, the focus was on taking initiative and building independence. The Beavers confidently recited their promise together and took active ownership of their upcoming journey. After exploring the available badges, they drew the ones they wanted to work on for Terms 1 and 2 and we used their drawings as a hands-on voting system to decide the colony's actual plan for the terms! The Beavers then put their hands to work, practicing to successfully tie their own reef knots.

Why is the reef knot so special?
The reef knot on the World Scout Emblem represents strength and unity. The rope surrounding the emblem symbolizes our worldwide Scout family, and tying it together with a reef knot shows the connection shared by Scouts everywhere.
It’s amazing to watch both sections grow in confidence, learn new skills, and support each other!

A busy evening for our Beaver Colony!🦫

Last Thursday we welcomed 10 new Beavers to 1st Brabazon Scout Group and got straight into discovering what being a Beaver is all about.

The Beavers started working towards their World Membership badges and spent some time thinking about the Beaver Promise:
“I promise to do my best to be kind and helpful and to love our world.”

We made Promise Hands together, then each Beaver chose one kind thing they could do at home during the week. We’re looking forward to hearing all about it at our next session!

There was also a special moment for Tom, our Beaver Team Leader, who made his Investiture. He made his Scout Promise and received his necker and World Membership badge from Ben, Brunel Group Lead Volunteer.👏

A great first evening with our new Beavers - and we’re already looking forward to seeing everyone again tomorrow for another Beavers and Squirrels session!

On Thursday, 1st Brabazon Scout Group had such an exciting evening - we officially welcomed 10 new Squirrels to our drey!

We talked all about what being a Squirrel is about as the children started working towards their World Membership badges. They made wonderful 'Promise Hands' pictures and we discussed the Squirrel Promise: "I promise to do my best to be kind and helpful and to love our world."

It was a huge milestone for our leadership team, too! Chris, our Group Lead Volunteer and Squirrel Team Leader, made his Investiture. He took his Scout Promise and was presented with his necker and World Membership badge by Ben, the Brunel Group Lead Volunteer.

We couldn't be more excited to see our drey growing - a giant welcome to all 10 new Squirrels!

What an amazing opening night. Welcome to all our new Squirrels and Beavers!
