Some photos of our BUCG conservation trip!👩‍🌾🪏☀️

We were in luck with the weather last weekend as we took to the rolling Welsh hills for a wonderful gardening retreat. Many gravel paths were made, many weeds we’re pulled and lots of bread and was eaten. I don’t think anyone wanted to leave

You should bee excited! 🐝

The grounds team is starting up the introduction to beekeeping course! This is a hands-on project, where students will learn practical skills such as lighting and using a smoker, safely opening and inspecting a hive, understanding bee behaviour, identifying different members of the colony, and gaining confidence working around bees. It’s a practical way to experience bee keeping in a garden environment!

A really important aspect is that it is a big commitment that will be continuing over the summer. There will be 21 sessions with 8-10 days in between. As it's a highly demanded course with it 4 spaces so missing more than two sessions may result in losing your place on the course. The first session is in the 23rd of March at 4:00pm.

You must have their own pair of Wellington boots, must not have a known bee sting allergy, and must arrive on time ready to begin at 4:00pm at the botanic gardens!
The applications close at midnight on the 19th March.

At Bucg we would love to help with any project helping students engage in nature and wildlife, so if you cannot participate we hope to have alot more projects with the grounds team involving solitary bee protection! 🛖🐝🫎🐛🦋🐌

Allotmenteers we have a treat for you!🌟

We will be heading back to the Welsh hills for a short getaway, staying in an established WWOOF smallholding, where we’ll help maintain and expand a self-sustaining smallholding.

Come rain or shine, you’ll be kept busy with jobs throughout the day, such as making new crop beds, planting trees, making fences, collecting wood, sewing plants, and cooking for the whole group. In return, we have free accommodation and meals!

They also run morning meditation sessions for those who want that extra relaxation.

While we can’t promise good weather, this is the perfect break for those wanting to get their hands dirty and escape uni and the city for some rewarding hard work and fun community-building in the BUCG. We will be getting the train and rail replacement buses to and from Llandeilo.

A heads up: there will be physical work and lot of walking involved! 🐞♻️🦋

We’re escaping from the outdoors for our first official social of the year! Bring yourself (and some food) to St Paul’s Church for a fun catch-up with fellow BUCG members and committee, followed by a cosy projector screening of the Life of Pi! 🐯 (Cosy jumpers and blankets are also advised)

Bring a starter, dessert, or main to share with everyone.

Please make sure your food is nut-free, and that it is (preferably) vegan or vegetarian to accommodate everyone
