Arnos Vale Cemetery The Bath Road gates are open from 9am - 5pm. The shop is open 10.30am - 4.00pm. Cafe open 10am-4pm Arnos Vale has free admission, but encourages donations.

Join Peter Weeks for a thought-provoking exploration of the poetry inspired by the First and Second World Wars, brought to life through readings by Anni Davey and Andrew Smith.

Discover how extraordinary experiences of courage, fear, horror, loss, compassion, anger and hope shaped some of the most powerful literature of the twentieth century. Featuring poets including Wilfred Owen, Siegfried Sassoon, Robert Graves, Isaac Rosenberg, Vera Brittain, and Keith Douglas.

Christmas Tree Volunteers – We Need You! 🎄

It might feel a little early, but we’re already thinking ahead to Christmas!
We’re looking for friendly volunteers to help sell our beautiful Christmas trees from 24th November.

You’ll help care for the trees, chat to visitors and spread a little Christmas cheer with every sale. Shifts are 10:30am–1pm or 1–4pm. We’ll also be opening late for some Christmas shopping evenings, so we’re looking for volunteers to help with evening shifts from 4pm–7pm too.

Every penny raised goes straight back into protecting and preserving Arnos Vale, so you’ll be making a real difference to this special place. ❤️

This October half-term, discover the nocturnal creatures that use the cemetery when people have gone home!

Follow the trail, solve the clues and learn more about the animals that come out at night. There’s a special animal-themed prize to collect at the end! 🐾

🚂 Following an overwhelming response to our appeal for information about people connected to Great Western Railway (GWR) who are buried at Arnos Vale, we are uncovering fascinating new stories about Bristol’s railway heritage.

These include Stanley Norman Tanner, who progressed from engine cleaner to steam train driver and later drove the new InterCity 125 trains; Henry Fisher, who inspired generations of railway workers; engineer Rowland Brotherhood, who worked on railway projects under Isambard Kingdom Brunel; and architect Henry Lloyd, whose significant contribution to Bristol Temple Meads station’s distinctive design had long been overlooked.

Supported by £3,179 from GWR's Customer and Community Improvement Fund, the project will continue to research and share these stories through a self-guided Railway Heritage Trail on the Bloomberg Connects app, guided walks, public talks and online biographies. We are grateful to everyone who has shared family stories, photographs, memories and documents to help preserve this important part of Bristol’s history.

We’re saddened to share that a red Masport 800 ST lawnmower was stolen from Arnos Vale Cemetery on Sunday 11 October.
CCTV footage shows two people on bicycles entering the site at around 8.25pm and leaving at approximately 8.40pm. The lawnmower was being carried on the back of one of the bicycles as they headed east along Bath Road.
This theft is a real blow to our hardworking volunteer landscape team, who give so much of their time and energy to keeping the cemetery grounds looking beautiful. Their work is vital to caring for this special place, and losing an essential piece of equipment will directly affect what they can achieve. With our finances already stretched, replacing the lawnmower will also put further pressure on our limited resources.
The theft has been reported to the police, and we have CCTV footage of the incident. If you witnessed anything suspicious, have any information that could help, or spot the lawnmower, please report it via the Avon and Somerset Police website using the crime ref number RAC-27DE4 : https://www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/report/ Please also share this post to help spread the word.
