Shortbread mince pies, These are a tasty twist on traditional mince pies for those with a real sweet tooth, instead of using pastry these are made with shortbread, they are easy to make and are so tasty. To make 12 you will need 250g of butter, 110g of sugar, 360g of plain flour and a jar of mincemeat. After weighing out the ingredients we cut the butter into cubes and rubbed it into the flour until it looked like breadcrumbs, we then added sugar and a little water until we could make a soft dough. We cut one third off as this will become our lids and with the remaining two thirds we divided them into twelve and rolled them into balls. With the palm of our hands we flattened the balls into discs and placed them into a heavily buttered tray (don't skip this as they may stick once cooked) we then filled them with mincemeat. Divide the remaining dough into twelve, roll them into balls and flatten them into discs to make the lids. Try to pinch the edges of the pie when you add the lids as this will stop them leaking when cooking, bake these at 190c for 20 to 25 minutes and allow to cool before removing from he tray. These are not the prettiest looking pies but are very tasty and perfect with a cuppa, enjoy.

Fabric tree decorations, this is a simple but effective idea for those creatives out there. We started by making some templates of our designs out of cornflake packets and drew around them onto some calico cotton we had in our cupboard. We then painted on our shapes on with a mixture of poster paint and pva glue, you can use fabric paint if you can afford them. We then used a black marker to add the detail before cutting them out. When it came to sewing we used brightly coloured threads and a large needle, remember to have the decorated side facing out. We sewed about 90% around before stopping to stuff with wadding before sewing the whole thing up. We finished it off by adding a loop at the top so we can hang it on the tree, we were very happy with how they turned out so we made four different designs, why not give it a go.
