Volunteer Week may be over, but our celebrations certainly aren't! πŸŽ‰

Today we're shining a spotlight on the wonderful Vanessa, one of Lifeskills' truly incredible volunteers. πŸ’™

Vanessa Cox has been volunteering with Lifeskills for an amazing 9 years and during that time has helped educate more than 1,100 children about staying safe. Her enthusiasm, kindness and commitment make a huge difference to every child, school and volunteer she meets.

Vanessa supports both mainstream and SEND school visits with endless positivity, patience and encouragement. She brings so much joy to our centre and is always willing to go the extra mile.

Her support extends far beyond her volunteering sessions too. Vanessa encouraged her craft club, BEEs, to support Lifeskills, and they have even chosen us as their Charity of the Year. She also inspired her daughter to take on and complete the Bristol 10K in support of Lifeskills! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’™

And if that wasn't enough, Vanessa hand-crafted a beautiful new Lifeskills clock for our volunteer team to enjoy. πŸ•°οΈ

Vanessa's energy, generosity and dedication are truly inspiring. We are so grateful for everything she does and proud to have her as part of the Lifeskills family.

As part of our volunteer celebrations, we're delighted to recognise Vanessa's contribution and would like to thank Room to Reward for helping us celebrate the incredible people who give their time to make a difference in our communities.

Please join us in celebrating Vanessa and all our amazing volunteers by leaving a message of thanks in the comments below. πŸ‘πŸ’™

πŸ’™ Lifeskills simply wouldn't exist without our volunteers. πŸ’™

This Volunteers' Week, we're celebrating the incredible people who help more than 11,000 young people every year learn the vital skills and confidence they need to stay safe.

While we do our very best to make sure our volunteers feel valued all year round, this week gives us an extra opportunity to shine a spotlight on the people who make Lifeskills such a special place. 🌟

We've stocked the kitchen with a few extra treats, shared plenty of thank-yous and spent time celebrating the amazing contribution our volunteers make every single day. 🍰

Today, we're celebrating Paul! ⭐

Paul is one of those volunteers who brings energy wherever he goes. His enthusiasm is infectious, his sense of fun keeps children engaged, and he has a fantastic ability to make important safety lessons memorable.

Over his 475 volunteer hours, Paul has helped more than 950 children learn vital skills that could help keep them safe for life. We're incredibly grateful for the positivity, commitment and laughter he brings to Lifeskills. πŸ‘

A special thank you to Room to Reward✨ for helping us recognise and celebrate volunteers like Paul. Their wonderful work rewards the Hidden Heroes of the charity sector with well-deserved breaks and experiences.

As Volunteers' Week continues, we'd like to say a huge thank you to every member of our volunteer team. Your support makes a lasting difference to young lives, and we're incredibly grateful for all that you do. πŸ’™

And if you've ever thought about volunteering, why not get in touch? You'll join a friendly, supportive team, help young people learn life-saving skills, and have plenty of fun along the way. 😊

🌟 It’s Volunteers’ Week! 🌟

This week, we're celebrating the incredible people who make Lifeskills possible. πŸ’™

Every year, more than 11,000 young people visit Lifeskills to learn vital safety skills, and we simply couldn't do it without our amazing volunteers. From welcoming school groups and delivering engaging sessions to maintaining our realistic safety sets and supporting events, our volunteers give their time, energy and expertise to help children stay safe and thrive. 🚦🏠🚲

Today, we're shining a spotlight on Ann ⭐

Ann has been a dedicated Lifeskills volunteer for over five years, generously giving more than 650 hours of her time and helping more than 1,300 children learn how to stay safe. Her warmth, enthusiasm and kindness make her a firm favourite with the children she supports.

Ann consistently goes above and beyond, helping to maintain our sets, supporting open days, delivering talks to local WI groups and encouraging new volunteers to get involved. She is a true ambassador for Lifeskills and a much-loved member of our volunteer team. πŸ’™

As part of Volunteers' Week, we'd also like to say a huge thank you to Room to Reward✨ for helping us recognise and celebrate volunteers like Ann. Room to Reward is a wonderful charity that says "thank you" to the Hidden Heroes of the charity sector by providing well-deserved breaks through donated hotel stays. Their support enables us to reward the dedication, generosity and selflessness of our volunteers.

πŸ‘ Thank you, Ann, and thank you to every Lifeskills volunteer. Your impact reaches thousands of young people every year, and we are so grateful for everything you do.

πŸ”Œ Powering Safety Through Partnership

πŸŽ‰ What a fantastic day yesterday celebrating the launch of our new interactive Electrical Safety Scenario, developed in partnership with Electrical Safety First to raise awareness of electrical safety in the home and the growing dangers associated with lithium-ion battery powered devices.

⚑ Alongside our dedicated volunteers, the event also brought together partners and experts from across the region to help families explore a wide range of safety topics, including ☠️ gas safety, πŸš‘ first aid, πŸš— road safety, πŸš† rail safety and πŸ›‘οΈ product safety.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ We were delighted to welcome so many families through our doors and see visitors engaging with the new scenario, gaining practical safety knowledge and enjoying the many activities and demonstrations on offer. The fantastic feedback we received highlighted the value of interactive experiences that bring important safety messages to life.

πŸ™ Thank you Electrical Safety First for their support in helping us develop and launch our amazing resource.

πŸ‘ Special thanks also to everyone that contributed to the day :

A huge THANK YOU to R Kidz of Bristol for sponsoring today’s visit to Lifeskills for the children from Parson Street Primary and Nursery School πŸš’πŸš¦

Because of their support, even more children are able to access vital safety learning in a fun, interactive and memorable way - and what a fantastic morning it was!

The children explored:
πŸ”₯ Fire safety
🚦 Road safety
☎️ How to make a 999 call
🩹 First aid skills
πŸ›οΈ The impact of shoplifting on communities
…and so much more!

There were brilliant discussions, lots of thoughtful questions and some very confident future lifesavers in the making πŸ‘

❓Would YOU know what to do if you discovered a fire?
❓Could you stay calm and make a 999 call in an emergency?
❓Do you know how small actions can affect your whole community?

Well… the children from Parson Street Primary and Nursery School do now! πŸ’‘

We’re incredibly grateful to R Kids of Bristol for helping make experiences like this possible and supporting young people across Bristol to build confidence, safety awareness and life skills that could one day save lives.

Well done to Mr James and Mrs Davey, who took part in the Bristol 10K last weekend.

Mr James was raising money for the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity, a cause close to his heart, while Mrs Davey was supporting LifeSkills Bristol, which helps Year 6 pupils develop important life skills before moving to secondary school.

It was great to see so many families taking part and supporting from the sidelines throughout the event

We are thrilled to celebrate our amazing volunteer Annabelle, who has now completed her 100th guiding session at Lifeskills!
