“I REALLY LOVE IT HERE!” ❤️

What a fantastic day we had welcoming the wonderful children from Two Mile Hill Primary School to Lifeskills yesterday!

From the moment they arrived, we were met with curious minds, eager questions and so much enthusiasm. The children threw themselves into every activity, learning valuable skills that could one day make a real difference.

There was plenty of hands-on learning, lots of brilliant engagement and, most importantly, so much fun along the way!

One of our favourite moments? Hearing a child say, “I really love it here!”

And we just love this little video! 🎥 When asked, “Did you have a good time at LifeSkills?” the children’s enthusiastic “YEAH!” says it all!

A HUGE thank you to the John James Bristol Foundation, whose generous funding made this visit possible. Your support gave these children the opportunity to learn essential life skills in a fun, engaging and memorable way. We are so grateful for your support in helping us make experiences like this happen!

And, of course, thank you to Two Mile Hill for visiting us. It was an absolute pleasure to welcome you, and we loved seeing the children getting stuck in, learning together and having such a brilliant time!

🛒 Who doesn’t love a trip to the Co-op? Our Broomhill Junior School visitors certainly did!

Yesterday afternoon, we welcomed Broomhill Junior School to Lifeskills for an afternoon of practical learning and important safety lessons.

Children always love exploring our realistic shop and we give them the role of being mystery shoppers. They look carefully at what was happening around them and think about the impact of shoplifting on shops, staff and the wider community.

And here’s a fact that got us thinking:

❓ Did you know the Co-op reported £80 million in shoplifting losses in its food retail business in 2024?

Using the shop makes it much easier for children to understand a subject like this. They can see the situation for themselves, ask questions and think about the wider consequences.

And that was just one part of their afternoon. The children also explored; road safety, fire safety, first aid, railway safety, knife crime, drug exploitation and much more.

It was lovely to see them getting involved, asking questions and learning about situations that could be relevant to their everyday lives.

A huge thank you to the John James Bristol Foundation for funding the visit and helping make this experience possible. Your support allows us to give children these valuable opportunities to learn in a practical, memorable way.

And thank you to our wonderful Lifeskills volunteers for sharing their knowledge and making the afternoon such a positive experience.

🎨🚦 Calling all primary schools and preschools! 🚦🎨

We're pleased to share Yunex Traffic's Road Safety Sticker Design Competition, being run in support of 2026.

Children are invited to design a road safety sticker. The winning design will be transformed into a real sticker and displayed on Yunex Traffic vehicles across the UK! 🚐✨

There are lots of prizes available for both children and schools, and we’d love to see schools across our region do well!

🏆 Volunteers deserve moments like this.

As part of this year's Room to Reward programme, one of our wonderful volunteers, Ann, enjoyed a two-night stay at Balmer Lawn Hotel – and from the sounds of it, it was a weekend to remember.

After returning home, Ann sent us this lovely email...

💬 "My husband and I had a FABULOUS two-night stay at the Balmer Lawn Hotel in Brockenhurst. The hotel was luxurious, and the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. They treated us like royalty and made our stay incredibly memorable. Thank you!"

Reading Ann's message made us smile. Knowing she felt so welcomed and appreciated is exactly what volunteer recognition should be about.

A huge thank you to Room to Reward for helping us recognise some of our incredible volunteers in such a special way, and to everyone at Balmer Lawn Hotel for going above and beyond to make Ann's stay so memorable.

Our volunteers give so much of themselves to Lifeskills. We know we can never fully repay that, but we do want them to know just how much they're appreciated. Whether it's through opportunities like Room to Reward, our volunteer celebrations, or simply taking the time to say thank you, we hope every volunteer knows just how important they are to us.

💙 What an incredible way to kick off our new academic year! 💙

We were delighted to welcome our very first school visit of the year yesterday, and what a fantastic group they were! Their Year 6 pupils threw themselves into every activity, showing enthusiasm, curiosity and maturity as they explored our realistic safety village and learnt vital life-saving and safety skills.

Our volunteers couldn't stop talking about them afterwards. They were bright, engaged, full of thoughtful questions and fantastic answers, making every session a pleasure to deliver. They were an absolute credit to their school, and we couldn't have asked for a better start to the year.

Thank you for sharing your lovely feedback—it means so much to our team. 💙 We hope your pupils left feeling more confident, more aware and better prepared to stay safe, and we look forward to welcoming you back to LifeSkills Bristol in the future! 🌟

🎉 A huge congratulations to Wendy on an incredible milestone! 🎉

Wendy has recently completed her 500th guiding session at Lifeskills - that’s an amazing 1,000 hours spent welcoming, supporting and inspiring children who visit our centre. 💛

And Wendy gives so much more to Lifeskills too. As a fabulous Trainer Guide, Volunteer Rep and member of our Board of Directors, she is a truly valued part of our Lifeskills family.

We were delighted to celebrate Wendy’s achievement at our Summer Party, presenting her with her very own 500 Sessions badge and a well-deserved treat - afternoon tea for two at The Pony and Trap in Chew Magna! 🥂🍰

Yesterday, we were delighted to welcome Network Rail to Lifeskills as part of Rail Safety Week.

The Network Rail team did a fantastic job engaging our visitors with important rail safety messages, making learning fun, memorable and interactive. They even brought along some fantastic goodies for the children, which were a huge hit!

We were also pleased to host Stanbridge Primary School yesterday morning. The students were enthusiastic, inquisitive and a real credit to their school. To top off a brilliant visit, they created a lovely thank-you video for the Network Rail team, which we're delighted to share.

As a small charity, the support of our partners is incredibly important. Network Rail consistently goes above and beyond for Lifeskills – helping us deliver vital safety messaging, supporting school visits, and always being ready to lend a hand when we need it.

A huge thank you to everyone at Network Rail for your continued support and commitment to keeping young people safe.
