Evening BS13 Hedgehog Project followers, Residents of Hartcliffe and Withywood and the local community,

๐Ÿงšโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿง™โ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿงœโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ป๐Ÿ˜ Happy Halloween and Fright Night! ๐Ÿ‘ฝ๐Ÿคก๐Ÿฆธโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿง›โ€โ™‚๏ธ๐ŸงŸ
I hope you and the kids had an amazing night dressing up, decorating your house/ windows and gardens as well ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿซtrickle treating ๐Ÿญ and embracing the spooky, Samhain, and Day of the Dead Spirit.

I want to talk to you about your lovely, creative, spooky and frightful carved Pumpkins and Pumpkin Latterns. That add so much to the Halloween evening.

Sadly a lot of pumpkins are irresponsibly discarded and dumped in Green and Blue Spaces, Parks, and Nature rich spaces within the community after Halloween without any thought for or thinking it will benifit wildlife sadly for most UK wildlife this isnt the case.

Pumpkin isn't a native natural food source for any UK wildlife and whilst a few table spoons can be useful to small few speacies of native UK wildlife to a lot of wildlife particulary Hedgehogs it's actually a strong laxative and has the effect on them causing diarrhea and vomiting at a time they have just likely had a potentially second brood of hoglets, and all are trying to find the last possible morsels of food whilst preparing to hibernate over winter.
๐ŸฆŠ๐Ÿฆ”๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿฆโ€โฌ›๐ŸฆŽ๐Ÿฆก๐Ÿพ

Sadly this dihorea and vomiting can cause severe dehydration, malnutrition, and even starvation leading to the death of many hedgehogs particualry small young hedgehogs/ hoglets born this year. ๐Ÿฆ”โ˜ ๏ธ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿคข๐Ÿคฎ๐Ÿ’ฉ๐Ÿ’€

So please either use your Pumpkin ๐ŸŠ remains to make something beautiful in the kitchen like a autumnal spiced Pumpkin soup, Pumpkin Pie for thoose of you with a sweeter tooth, put it in your food bins or donate your Pumpkin remains for composting securely out of reach of Hedgehogs at either Hartcliffe City Farm at the Haybale Cafe or at the Heart of BS13 Roundhouse entrances in the signed pumpkin donation bins/ baskets on Crosscombe Drive and or Belgrave Crescent. ๐Ÿ™

Let's protect our local Hedgehog population, and the beautiful local wildlife and feed our compost piles instead.

Kind Regards

Luke and the BS13 Hedgehog Project and thank you for the collaboration with Heart of BS13, Heart of BS13 Flower Farn and Hartcliffe City Farm for protecting Hedgehogs and local Wildlife.

Hey BS13 Hedgehog Project, Hartcliffe and Withywood Residents and Community, just wanting to highlight a fellow local charity and the amazing work Sol, the team and volunteers are doing at Heart BS13 Flower Farm and the fact they are being featured on BBC Gardiners Wolrd tonight (Friday 29th August) 8.00 pm! Amazing Kind Regards BS13 Hedgehog Project

We are very excited to finally be able to share the news that we will be appearing on BBC Gardeners World this Friday!

Last month, we were visited at the flower farm by Joe Swift and his team, who we talked to about all things flowers - what we grow, our approach, and our charity's mission and values. The interview was part of a series on local heroes and Joe spoke to some of our brilliant volunteers who shared their experience about helping out here on the flower farm and what it means to them.

We are really grateful for the opportunity to share our work and passion with a wider audience - you can watch us live on BBC 2 at 8pm on Friday, or catch the replay on iplayer!

Hey BS13 Hedgehog Project, Hartcliffe and Withywood Residents and community,

This wonderful event is happening as we speak at Hartcliffe City Farm with Bristol Avon Rivers Trust and Bristol City Council.

Still plenty of time to get there, do a mini beast ID, paint a fish and make a river friendly logo house, and even grab a coffee and cake from the hay bale cafe whilst supporting our local City Farm, and the local Rivers Trust.

Kind Regards BS13 Hedgehog Project

Bristol Avon Rivers Trust are hosting a stall in the farmyard TOMORROW, with a range of free fun river-themed activities to families to enjoy ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿธ

Visit the farm between 10:00 and 15:00 to learn about our river restoration work in Manor Woods Valley and Crox Bottom, whilst searching for river creatures, painting your own fish keyring, or operating a Lego sustainable drainage demonstration.

The Hay Bale Cafe will be open all day for drinks and snacks, too!
