Baby Bank Network redistributes baby items like clothes, slings and nappies that have been used and loved by parents, but are no longer needed, to parents who cannot afford to buy these items new or second hand. Please see our website pages for further information

Last week, we were delighted to welcome a team from the Bristol office of Semperian to volunteer at our hub in Fishponds!

🎄Throughout the year, we’ve been setting aside any pre-loved Christmas clothes, toys and books that have come in among other donations on our wishlist.

The Semperian team sorted through them all and created gift packs for different ages, which we’ll give to families we’re supporting in the lead-up to Christmas.

We had this lovely feedback after the event🧡:

‘Thank you to Baby Bank for giving us the opportunity to volunteer! It was such a wholesome and amazing day, we left feeling like we made a difference and helped families that need support. You can see how truly dedicated the volunteers are and how hard they work – Baby Bank is an amazing network, and I will definitely be back to volunteer again.’

Through a new partnership with Bristol Airport, prams and pushchairs that passengers leave behind are now being redistributed to families facing poverty or crisis.

If a pram is unclaimed and meets safety standards, the airport stores it safely for us until we collect it🙌

Between June and August this year, we collected 48 prams in great condition, which are now being passed onto local families struggling to get out and about with their babies or young children.

This promotes one of our key values of reuse, and prevents more unwanted items ending up in landfill.

We’re really grateful to Business In The Community, which connects businesses with local partners through its Pride of Place programme. And to the Bristol Airport team, who needed to navigate complex logistics to make this happen.

Together, we've been able to find a practical solution that means unwanted items are now being given a second life.

If you have a pram to donate, **please don't leave it at the airport**. The scheme is specifically for prams that passengers leave behind unintentionally.

If you’d like to donate a pram or pushchair, please make sure it’s in good, clean working order, confirm it’s on our current wishlist, then book a slot to drop it off at Baby Bank. That way, we can get it to a family sooner.

More than one in four parents in the UK can’t always afford basic hygiene products for their family.

For a child growing up without access to toothpaste, shampoo, soap and deodorant, that can mean missing school and feeling different from their friends.

The effects on a child’s mental wellbeing and physical health can last long into the future.

Until last week, we were telling you that 4.1 million people in the UK were living in hygiene poverty.

The latest research from In Kind Direct and The Hygiene Bank puts that figure at 9.6 million adults. Almost one in five.

*For people with children, it’s more than one in four.*

And these are mostly not people living in extreme deprivation – 41% of those affected are going without for the first time this year.

That includes working parents, dual-income households, retirees, and people who were financially stable until recently.

Out of the blue, parents are finding themselves unable to afford shampoo, soap, toothpaste, deodorant, loo roll, washing powder, period products.

Which has a big impact on children, too. Not only in the immediate day to day, but long into their future.

13,000 families.

Since 2015, that's how many households across Bristol have received essentials from Baby Bank Network – nappies, clothes, cots, prams, toiletries – all thanks to our fantastic volunteers, HQ team, donors and referral partners.

We're proud of what this community has built together.

Of course, we’d love the number of people needing to seek help to be so much lower. But until that changes, we’re here to help families keep their babies and young children warm, clean and safe.

Hygiene poverty affects 1.1 million children in the UK.

That’s around 4 children in every Bristol classroom who don’t have access to toothpaste, soap, shampoo…

Today marks the start of National Hygiene Week.

This week, and in the run-up to Christmas, we're focusing on making sure every family we support has the basics to keep their baby clean, comfortable and healthy.

This means collecting and passing on essential toiletries for young children and their mums. Nappies, wipes, shampoo, shower gel, sanitary products – they can all help families who are going through crisis face the day with just a bit more confidence.

South Bristol's newest family space, Babyzone, launched in Hartcliffe recently – and Becky and Sian from the Baby Bank team were there to see it🎊

Babyzone is a national charity providing a fantastic free drop-in to Bristol families every Friday during term-time at the new 224 Youth Zone, Hartcliffe Way, BS4 1GQ - opposite Imperial Retail Park.

It was brilliant to chat with local families, the Babyzone team, and other children's services, all working out how we can best support families through those early years together. There are some exciting collaborations ahead!

In the meantime, if you’re local to South Bristol and have little ones aged 0-5, do head down to Babyzone on a Friday between 9.30am and 2.30pm.

There’s softplay, crafts, reading areas, construction play – as well as classes and activities including Rugbytots, Hartbeeps, sensory play, baby massage, music and movement – and even more!

There’s no need to book, just pop along🧡
