If you don’t have solar eclipse glasses and want to safely see it:

1) can’t watch on tv.

2) using things found in a kitchen to make a solar projector.

Step 1)

Something with a hole that can block light;
These examples :
A colander,
A steamer pan
A potato ricer
A piece of cardboard with a hole pieced through it

Step 2)
something that can be projected on to:
A piece of paper
A piece of card
A wall

Step 3)
Stand with sun behind you,

Hold thing with holes between the sun and the thing you are going to project on.

Adjust distance so you get non fuzzy circles.

Step 4) do this during an eclipse,

This is actually a projection of the sun (not just a shadow of the holely thing) so you will see the sun’s shape with the “bite” taken out as the moon passes in front.

The final pictures were taken in March 2025 during the last partial eclipse in the UK

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to support the first BS4 Makers Market last Saturday! It was such a lovely day and I'm excited for the next one. Discover the work of 18 great local makers, enjoy a free kids craft workshop by Colourful Minds from 1 till 3 and there's cake. The August market has a bit of a Bristol inspired designs theme and we are raising money for Bristol Children's Hospital Wallace & Gromit's Grand Appeal. Save the date - Saturday 1st August, 10 till 3, at St Cuthbert's Church on Sandy Park Road.

Hello sadly due to the temperatures predicting to be over 30C by 1pm there won’t be any face paining at the picnic,

(Both me and the face paints melt in the heat)

GBT will hopefully make the next community event. Instead.

Best wishes

Penny (aka, the face painting lady/ chair of Greater Brislington Together)
