Hello! 👋
Our woodland drama club is back this Easter — and we’re so excited to run it again.

Over three days, young people will explore drama, creativity and storytelling in the beautiful surroundings of Friston Forest in the South Downs National Park. 🌳 It’s a relaxed, fun space to get outdoors, try new things, and build confidence, communication skills and wellbeing.

The sessions are led by the wonderful Rozzy from The Dragon Drama, and hosted by us at Make (Good) Trouble — together creating a safe, welcoming and creative space for young people to express themselves and connect with others.

👉 Places are limited, so if this sounds like something your young person would enjoy, you can sign up here: https://eequ.org/book/forest-drama-club-with-make-good-trouble-cic-3064

And if you know a family who might benefit, please do share this post — it really helps us reach the young people who need it most. 💛

A few years ago, we recorded a conversation between psychotherapist Donna Peters-Lamb and Daisy about parenting and young people’s mental health.

Re-watching it recently, we were struck by how relevant it still feels.

The themes haven’t changed. Parents are still navigating:
- School anxiety that shows up on Sunday nights
- Exam stress and perfectionism
- Family conflict that feels bigger than it should
- That quiet, persistent worry of “Am I getting this wrong?”

The reassuring truth? Most parents aren’t getting it wrong. They’re doing one of the most emotionally demanding jobs there is, often without enough support.

In the blog, we’ve summarised Donna’s brilliant advice:
- Why anxiety often builds slowly (and what to look for)
- Simple nervous-system tools that genuinely help young people (and parents!)
- How to reduce power struggles at home
- Why flexible thinking matters more than forced positivity

It’s practical, grounded and designed to feel supportive rather than overwhelming.

If you’re parenting teenagers – or working with families who are – we hope it’s useful.

We’d also be really interested to hear what you’re noticing right now. What feels hardest for parents of teenagers at the moment?

👋 Calling parents and carers of teenagers…
We’re piloting a brand-new online workshop for parents and carers of teens — practical, evidence-based, and designed to help you connect, communicate, and survive (and sometimes even thrive!) through the teenage years.
If you’ve ever felt scared, exhausted, worried, confused, or all of the above while parenting a teen… same. That’s exactly why we’ve built this.
At Make (Good) Trouble, we’ve spent years working directly with young people, helping them find their voice. Seven years ago we launched our BBC Radio series Raising Teens — co-created with adolescents and youth mental health professionals. Out of all the episodes, The Teenage Brain was listened to more than any other… and it’s that learning (and listening) that’s helped shaped this course.
💬 What’s the pilot like?
Online
Small, supportive groups
Around 2 hours, plus a follow-up session a week later
Come with a real issue (and a cuppa ☕)
Learn practical tools, try them out, and see what actually helps
You’ll work with experienced facilitators, meet other parents, and practice ways to:
Build trust and emotional connection
Navigate conflict more calmly
Improve communication at home
Meet teens where they are — emotionally, culturally, digitally
Get signposted to further support if needed
This course is designed by parents, informed by professionals, and shaped by honest, mischievous, eloquent teenagers — with support from former teachers and experts in the adolescent brain.
🎟 The golden ticket:
Families who take part in the pilot get free access to the full course when it launches, plus all online materials — no extra cost.
If this sounds like something you’d like to be part of, we’d love to have you.

Cheers 💛

🎉 Pleased to share that we’re now an accredited Living Wage Employer!

As champions of young people, we’ve always believed in the importance of paying a real living wage. Everyone deserves to earn enough to live without constant struggle — and for young people especially, fair pay means the chance to be independent, secure, and truly valued.

For us, accreditation isn’t just a badge — it’s a way to shine a light on the unfairness many young people face, and to encourage others — whether business owners or young workers — to see that fair pay should be the norm, not the exception.

😎 The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme is amazing. We've been part of the East Sussex County Council offering since 2021. HAF offers free activities for kids on free school meals. This summer they cover everything from drama (our club is with the lovely folk at The Dragon Drama) to art, football, film making, paddle boarding and more.

Please share the following link with any parents who want something brilliant for their kids to do over the summer - and for parents who also want a bit of a break!

Here's the link to all the East Sussex listings (worth noting that councils around the country are supporting HAF programmes so if you're outside East Sussex, you can find listings for your own local authority).
