Yesterday, we were delighted to visit Preston Lawn Tennis Club to thank them for their recent donation.

The club raised a fantastic £1,720 at their quiz and raffle evening last month. We had great fun when we attended the event, and it was a pleasure to return and personally thank everyone for their generosity and support.

A special thank you to Simon, who organised the fundraiser. Simon completed the cardiac rehabilitation programme in Brighton and chose to support the SHC as a way of giving back to the team who helped him on his recovery journey.

We're incredibly grateful for Simon's fundraising efforts and for the generosity of everyone at the club who donated and supported the event. The generous donation will make a real difference, helping us to support cardiac patients and communities across Sussex.

The club are planning another SHC fundraiser in July at their Finals Day event - thank you Preston Lawn Tennis Club for your amazing ongoing support! 🎾❤️

Pictured is Simon presenting a cheque to the SHC team, joined by Martina, the Cardiac Rehab Lead, who was delighted to come along and support her former patient.

This week we’re delighted to welcome a student from Millais School for work experience!

Today, we had the opportunity to join the cardiac rehab team for a patient exercise class and assessment. It was a great experience, and we learned a lot about the role rehabilitation physios and nurses play in supporting a patient’s recovery.

Special thanks to Nia and Martina for welcoming us, sharing their expertise and taking the time to answer our questions.

Did you know that the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) increases with age? Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including regular physical activity, can help reduce your risk.

For many people, aches and pains can make staying active more difficult. That's why we're pleased to share a post from our partner, Natural Balance Therapies. Mark offers treatments including massage and osteopathy, which may help support mobility, relive pain and enhance overall wellbeing. Find out more below 👇

Always remember that complementary therapies should be used alongside standard medical care. If you have any health concerns, existing medical conditions, or take prescribed medication, please seek advice from your doctor or healthcare professional before starting any new treatment to ensure it is appropriate and safe for you.

Last month, along with Brighton & Hove Buses and the Mayor of Brighton & Hove, we were proud to celebrate the naming of a new electric bus in honour of our founder, Prof. Douglas Chamberlain.

Invited guests boarded the ‘Douglas Chamberlain’ bus at Brighton Marina for a special journey that fittingly went past the Royal Sussex County Hospital, before heading to Maderia Drive for photos on the seafront.

Held on the first anniversary of Douglas’s passing, it was a memorable day and a special tribute to someone who helped transform cardiac care and emergency pre-hospital response across Sussex and beyond. A consultant cardiologist at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Douglas launched the UK’s first paramedic course right here in Brighton and was a champion of CPR training and early defibrillation. Douglas’s pioneering work continues to save lives every day.

Now running on Route 7, the ‘Douglas Chamberlain’ bus is the first of the new electric fleet and stands as a visible and lasting tribute within the city he served. ❤️

Please enjoy a few more photos from the day.
