Talibe UK

Talibe UK Talibe UK is an association supporting Senegalese street children, known in the region as ‘talibe? They asked Richard to help them out.

Talibe UK's story:

In the summer of 2006, Richard visited Saint-Louis in Senegal to work and improve his French. He re-visited the following year, and was hospitalised with malaria. Whilst in hospital, two friends, Issa and Papis, visited the hospital and excitedly detailed their plans to found an association to assist the city's street children. Since that day in August 2007, many milestones hav

e been achieved and Talibe UK now has a strong portfolio of concrete, small-scale successes with Daara Vision Senegal and La Maison de la Gare, two Senegalese organisations. Our aims now are to:

- Improve our web-site and blog to reflect these and future achievements
- Create a fundraising strategy to bring in larger amounts of money from more stable and perennial sources
- Support a wider range of slightly larger projects over the coming few years

After a futher return to Senegal over the summer of 2008 we further defined our criteria for supporting projects. They must be:

- Small-scale
- Sustainable
- Led by grassroots organisations that would not otherwise gain the exposure required to raise substantial funds
- Supported by clear reporting and communication before, during and after the project
- Accountable to donors
