It is estimated that SEVEN million people in the UK cannot afford a healthy diet. With food prices rising, many Sussex and Surrey residents are struggling to include fresh food and healthy ingredients in their diet. FareShare Sussex makes twice daily deliveries of good quality surplus foods to over 160 local charities and community groups, who help thousands of our county's most vulnerable people. The local organisations we support include charities, church groups and NGOs who run homeless shelters, women's refuges, day centres and community groups. FareShare Sussex works with the food industry to redistribute their good quality, edible surplus food. Our food suppliers see FareShare as an ethical, safe and positive alternative for their surplus food, and we continue to develop our relationships with them. Last year we received and redistributed over 1500 tonnes of food.

A massive shout-out to our friends at who very kindly supplied our cyclists with quiches and rolls galore at lunch during our Big Surplus Cycle. The spread kept them fueled to complete the ride to our Brighton depot.

Our Higgidy sponsored van also stood very proud at the lunchtime spot!

With the eye-watering cost of diesel continuing to rise, what does that mean for our surplus food deliveries?

We caught up with our Head of Operations to talk about the impact on FareShare Sussex & Surrey. The increase in fuel prices is adding around £7,000 a year to our running costs, but one thing isn’t changing: our vans will keep going out, and our incredible volunteers will keep getting good-to-eat surplus food to community groups across Sussex and Surrey.

If you’d like to support us, we need a new electric vehicle. It would be powered through solar energy, helping to reduce our reliance on diesel while keeping food moving to the people who need it most.

It's that time of year again! The incredible More Radio are hosting their 10,000 tins campaign, collecting tins across Sussex and then kindly donating them to our depots. Tins are cupboard essentials and are always needed by our community projects.
