The Sussex Cancer Fund was established in 1981 to work with the NHS to create new and improved facilities providing the best possible cancer care for Sussex. Since then, £3 million has been raised to make the Sussex Cancer Centre more attractive, comfortable and effective. Unlike many charities, costs are exceptionally low with only a very small percentage spent on administration, almost all money

donated to us can be spent directly to benefit our patients. Unfortunately one in three of us in Sussex will develop cancer, which means that everyone is ultimately affected by it, and anyone who receives oncology treatment at the RSCH will benefit from something the charity has done or paid for. Our patients come from all over Sussex, from Rye to Chichester and up to Crawley. The Sussex Cancer Fund pays for a range of services and equipment for our patients. These include day-to-day ‘extras’ that make a difficult and stressful experience a little more civilised – the subsidised car park specifically for cancer patients, complementary therapy, free vending machines providing hot fresh drinks for patients, newspapers, magazines, a DVD library for chemotherapy patients and the like. We also pay for equipment, from specialist gowns for breast cancer patients costing £10 but which make a big difference to patients’ experiences, right through to medical equipment costing many thousands. We have also funded the systematic refurbishment of the Sussex Cancer Centre, including building the new chemotherapy suite, and more recently, the patient lounge, reception and garden creating a greatly improved environment for patients. The charity’s most ambitious project is the Macmillan Horizon Centre which we have built in partnership with Macmillan. It is a holistic service away from the clinical environment, providing patients with a range of support and services throughout their cancer treatment. These include financial/benefits advice, counselling, wig services, complementary therapy and the opportunity to meet with support groups.

For many people, anxiety can be one of the hardest parts of treatment.

Massage therapy offers a chance to pause, unwind, and feel more at ease — even if just for a little while.

And sometimes, that’s everything 💜

🌿☕ Join us for a lovely afternoon at Sheila’s Garden Party & Plant Sale in aid of Sussex Cancer Fund 💙
Our wonderful long-time supporter Sheila is once again opening her garden and selling the beautiful plants she has lovingly grown to help support local cancer care across Sussex.

Over recent years, Sheila and everyone who has supported her sales have helped raise thousands of pounds for Sussex Cancer Fund, and we are so incredibly grateful 💙

🌸 Plants for sale🍰 Cakes & cream teas☀️ Friendly garden atmosphere📍 1 Downsway, BN43 5GH📅 Saturday 4th July⏰ 12pm to 4pm

Every cup of tea, slice of cake and plant purchased helps us continue supporting local cancer services, patient wellbeing projects and cancer research across Sussex.

💜 Happy Volunteers' Week! 💜

This week, we're celebrating the incredible people who give their time, skills, energy and kindness to support Sussex Cancer Fund.

A huge thank you to all our volunteers, including our Trustees, fundraisers, patient-facing volunteers, cake bakers, event helpers, DIY volunteers, café volunteers, knitters and crafters, gardeners, volunteer consultants and business ambassadors.

Whether you're supporting patients directly, helping at events, sharing your professional expertise, making our spaces brighter, raising funds, or spreading awareness in your community, you are helping us make a real difference to local people affected by cancer.

Quite simply, we couldn't do what we do without you.

Every cup of tea served, every cake baked, every hour given, every introduction made and every project supported helps improve the lives of people affected by cancer across Sussex.

From all of us at Sussex Cancer Fund, thank you for being part of our charity family. You are amazing. 💜

💜 Another inspiring Science Café! 💜
Yesterday we were delighted to host our 7th Science Café, delivered in partnership with the Macmillan Horizon Centre and University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.
A huge thank you to our fantastic speakers for sharing their expertise and passion for improving cancer care and research in Sussex. Attendees learned about:

🔬 Research into Cancers of Unknown Primary (CUP)
🧪 How clinical trials work across University Hospitals Sussex
🥽 The role of Virtual Reality in clinical settings
📈 The work of Louisa Karacochi, Research Radiographer, whose role is funded by Sussex Cancer Fund to help increase local research opportunities and access to clinical trials

It was a fascinating afternoon filled with learning, discussion and insight into the innovations helping to shape the future of cancer care and treatment.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. We hope you found the talks as interesting and inspiring as we did. These events continue to demonstrate the incredible research, expertise and collaboration taking place right here in Sussex.

What makes the Sussex Business Charity League so special isn’t just the fundraising totals 💙

It’s local businesses across Sussex coming together to support local people affected by cancer. Businesses using their skills, networks, creativity and community spirit to make a real difference where it matters most.

Every pound raised stays in Sussex, helping fund cancer research, specialist equipment, patient services and improvements to NHS cancer care right here in our communities.
Together, local businesses really can create lasting impact.
