🌈 We absolutely love this Allsorts Youth Project

A huge thank you to Allsorts Youth Project for creating an LGBTQ+ Prom where children and young people can celebrate, belong and be their authentic selves.

At a time when many LGBTQ+ young people continue to face challenges, spaces like this matter. They provide joy, connection, acceptance and the chance to make memories that every young person deserves.

Our children and young people are the future of our communities, and supporting them to be confident, proud and true to who they are is one of the most important things we can do.

We’re proud to stand alongside Allsorts and celebrate the incredible work they do every day to support LGBTQ+ young people across Sussex.

Have an amazing prom everyone – dance, celebrate and be unapologetically you. ✨🌈💜🏳️‍⚧️🥳

There are only a couple of days left to make your nominations. Don’t miss the chance to recognise someone brilliant.

We’re so excited to share this special message from Amanda Collier from BBC’s The Traitors, who will be joining us to present Brighton & Hove LGBT Switchboard’s 50th Anniversary Community Awards.

These awards are part of our anniversary celebrations and are a chance to recognise the people who make a real difference to LGBTQ+ lives in Brighton & Hove - the people who support others, build community, show care, stand alongside us, and help make this city kinder and more connected.

If there’s someone you think deserves to be recognised, now is the time to nominate them. That might be someone who has supported Switchboard directly, made a difference in the wider community, shown meaningful allyship, or quietly helped others behind the scenes. You can nominate more than one person.

Nominations close on Saturday 27 June.

Watch Amanda’s message, then help us celebrate the people who make our communities what they are. Submit your nomination here:

Most people in our workplaces want to be respectful. The thing that gets in the way is not a lack of care. It is a lack of confidence.

Staff worry about saying the wrong thing, using the wrong term or offending someone by accident. That worry can lead to silence, and silence can make LGBTQ+ people feel invisible.

Our LGBTQ+ Inclusion Training is designed to change that. Sessions give teams time to ask questions, practise language and explore real examples from services like theirs. We focus on simple steps that staff can take straight away to make conversations feel safer and more open.

Training is led by LGBTQ+ trainers with lived experience and professional backgrounds across different sectors. People leave saying they feel more confident, more informed and more able to act when something does not feel right.

"I left feeling calmer and more confident about getting it right in everyday conversations."

If you would like to explore training for your staff, email us at [email protected] or visit https://www.switchboard.org.uk/hub/our-training/

We’re thrilled that Ophelia Payne will be bringing the entertainment to Brighton & Hove LGBT Switchboard’s 50th Anniversary Community Event.

If you know Ophelia, you’ll know exactly why that matters. She’s a Brighton cabaret star with a huge personality, a brilliant stage presence, and a talent for turning a room into a proper night out. She’s also part of Party Bag, billed as Brighton’s biggest alternative drag show, so expect glamour, laughs and plenty of sparkle.

Join us on 30 July as we celebrate 50 years of LGBTQ+ support and shared history, with our Community Awards, food from Lunch Positive, and Ophelia Payne bringing the glamour, laughs and sparkle.

This is a free event, but please RSVP so we can plan catering and welcome everyone properly.

Benjamin Howard, Gambling Harms Service Manager at Brighton & Hove LGBT Switchboard, attended Imperial College’s Pride event, where Switchboard’s Recover with Pride service was honoured to be selected as an official fundraising partner.

It was a brilliant opportunity to connect with students, staff and allies, share our work, and highlight the importance of LGBTQ+ lived experience in shaping inclusive services.

We’re deeply grateful for Imperial College’s support and for the generosity shown throughout the day.

This partnership marks the beginning of ongoing conversations, shared learning, and future collaboration, strengthening our commitment to community wellbeing, research engagement and identity-affirming support.

As England play their first World Cup game today, many LGBTQ+ people will be watching, cheering and sharing the excitement of the tournament with friends, family and community.

But we also know major football events can feel intense, exclusionary or heavily shaped by gambling advertising. For some LGBTQ+ people, that can make match days feel more pressured than joyful.

Through Recover With Pride, Brighton & Hove LGBT Switchboard is here to support LGBTQ+ people affected by gambling harms, including people worried about their own gambling and those affected by someone else’s.

This World Cup season, we’re encouraging our communities to stay connected, look out for each other, and know that support is available if gambling starts to feel overwhelming.

Brighton & Hove LGBT Switchboard is hosting a free Lunch & Learn for its service Recover with Pride on Removing Barriers to Support for LGBTQ+ people on Thursday 18 June, 12.00-13.00.

This one-hour session will look at the barriers LGBTQ+ people can face when trying to access support, including stigma, discrimination, unsafe environments, service design issues, gambling harm, crime, and the added impact of feeling unseen or misunderstood.

It will bring together research, lived experience and practical discussion in a way that feels honest, grounded and useful.

You will hear from Benjamin Howard, Dr Reece Bush-Evans, Lydia Silentium, Martin Sergeant, Tracy O'Shaughnessy and Tomasz Jarecki. Together they will explore LGBTQ+ identities, gambling harm, crime, Eastern European identity, lived experience, inclusive practice, and what safer, more responsive support can look like.

If you work in a service, organisation or community setting and want to better understand how to remove barriers for LGBTQ+ people seeking support, we would love you to join us.
