🎶 KEY CHANGERS 2027 – Your next chapter starts here!

Want to build confidence, grow as a musician and use your skills and experience to make a difference to your community?

Applications are now open for Key Changers, our community music leadership programme for under-represented musicians.

Over 10 days of practical training, creative development and mentoring, you’ll nuture your own artistic practice, connect with others and gain the experience to lead music workshops in community settings.

Key Changers could be for you if you’re interested in using music to bring people together and ready to learn and grow.

No need to be able to read music or have any formal qualifications or training. You just need to be confident playing an instrument or singing in a group.

We especially welcome applications from musicians with lived experience of addiction and recovery, homelessness, trauma, displacement or mental health challenges.

Course dates run between January–March 2027, in central Brighton.

Apply by 27 November 2026.

At YMCA Brighton, we’re passionate about supporting people experiencing or facing homelessness to rebuild their confidence, reconnect with their communities and live more independent lives.

Do you know a trailblazer in your community? Is there someone who you would like to shout about who is helping to change people’s lives? Is there a group or organisation that has helped you cope with the challenges in your life? Perhaps they are a person who your community could not survive without.

At the Big Issue, we do our bit to celebrate these people. Every year since 2018, we have celebrated the Changemakers: those people who have not focused on themselves but the rest of us. It is a tribute to the people and organisations who make the world a brighter place.

We want to hear about these people – and we want to give them a chance to be recognised – because being a Big Issue Changemaker can make a genuine difference to people’s lives and help them continue the important work they do. Nominations are open for Changemakers 2027 now.

🥾 And He's Off! 🎉

At 9am this morning, Christopher set off from the New Forest on the first leg of his 100-mile sponsored walk from Southampton to Exeter, raising vital funds for us. 💙

His first postcard from the road...

🌳 “I started at 9am from the New Forest. The weather is lovely and cool. A good mix of excitement and trepidation about the week to come. Making great progress on the path to Lymington!”🌳
