We had a lovely afternoon at the Jollof Café today! ❤️

Every Wednesday from 1–3pm at West Hill Hall, people come together to share delicious food and good company. Today we were treated to some amazing Syrian food 🇸🇾
It’s always great to catch up with friends old and new, and Refugee Radio tries to be there each week too, offering casework advice and support to anyone who needs it.
Good food, good people and a lovely sense of community. ❤️

A huge thank you to the wonderful Ellie, who has been such a faithful, committed and all-round amazing volunteer with us for the past 10 months. 💛

Ellie has brought so much to Refugee Radio, and we hope she’s learned a lot from her time with us, including the very important lesson that you can do serious and sometimes difficult work while still having a lot of fun along the way!

We’re really going to miss her, but we know she’s going to go far and do brilliant things. Thank you for everything, Ellie, and don’t be a stranger! ❤️

Here's a little look at what we got up to in July at our Mental Health Support Group. 💚

We like to mix things up, and July included a singing workshop with One Voice at Fabrica gallery, a visit to the Railway Land Nature Reserve with the fantastic Lost Woods team, and a thought-provoking session with Grassroots Su***de Prevention.

Lost Woods guided us through activities that encouraged us to slow down, notice the natural world around us, and connect with each other. Spending time outdoors can have a real positive impact on mental wellbeing, and it was a wonderful opportunity to explore, reflect and enjoy some green space together.

Grassroots led an open and compassionate discussion about su***de, helping us to challenge myths, build confidence in talking about a difficult subject, recognise when someone may be struggling, and understand how to respond and where to find support. These conversations aren't always easy, but they can make a real difference.

Connection, creativity, learning and support all have a place in our group, and there's plenty more to look forward to, including an art workshop later this month.

From friends:

SAMAS in Crowborough has no funding and we desperately need clothes for asylum seekers in the camp. We have 60 arrivals and departures every week.

We hand out the very basics to the men who have absolutely nothing , they arrive in home office issued track suit and flip flops. We have men on site that have been with us for weeks and are still in need, we need urgent support to continue.

For the next two weeks please focus on the items above but if people can get trainers it’s size 42 -44.

In Brighton people can drop bags off at Shabitat on Lewes Road until 10 August but please mark 'for SAMAS' on them thanks.

Refugee Radio onstage at Glastonbury 15 years ago, headlining Sunday night on the Fairtunes stage! This was a special performance from a supergroup of members from the Refugee Radio Orchestra with Planet Gnawa. Beyonce was on the main stage just before us and we were happy to have her as a support act and wish her all the best with her career.

Amazing set from artists formed by Refugee Radio charity. The chari...
