🌟 Volunteers Needed – Community Support Hub 🌟

You may already know about our monthly Community Support Hub at Old Boat Corner, held on the last Wednesday of every month. It’s a welcoming space where local organisations come together to offer support, advice, and services to our community 💙

We’re currently looking for friendly volunteers to help make the mornings run smoothly!

🙌 Community Hub Volunteer Role
We’re looking for someone who can:
- Help with setting up and packing away the room (tables, decorations, refreshments etc.)
- Welcome and guide visitors to the right services
- Support our visiting organisations with teas/coffees and general hospitality
- Be a warm, approachable face for everyone attending

🕘 Commitment:
Last Wednesday of every month, 9am–12pm

Just a few hours a month can make a real difference to people in our community ❤️

As part of Week, we’d like to give a huge shout out and thank you to Southern Water and CMDP - JV ( and joint Venture) who generously gave their time once again this week to support us in the garden 🌱

The team helped tend to our raised beds, strengthen key garden areas using recycled timber, and lay the groundwork for what we hope will be a productive and successful summer of growing.

Acts of kindness and support like this from organisations make a real difference to our centre, our volunteers, and the wider community, and we are incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to work alongside them.

If you’d like to join us for one of our upcoming garden days, we’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch at [email protected] 🌼

Will you join us in making hope louder than hate? ❤️

Life is difficult for many people right now, and for some it has been for a very long time. Simply getting through the day or week can feel overwhelming. But even in challenging times, our communities continue to show incredible kindness, resilience, and care.

Every day, people are quietly making a difference — pouring cups of tea, answering phones, fundraising, preparing meals, listening, supporting others, and bringing people together when it matters most. These acts may not always be seen, but they help build stronger, more hopeful communities.

This campaign is about recognising and thanking those people who continue to show up for others, often without recognition and often against the odds.

The initiative is aiming for 75,000 signatures and is now very close to reaching its goal.

Join us in signing the UK’s biggest ever thank you card to the people who make hope happen. 💫 https://millionactsofhope.org/ A Million Acts of Hope

We are so proud to be part of A Million Acts of Hope ❤️ A Million Acts of Hope

This campaign highlights the power of everyday kindness — from helping a neighbour to volunteering at local food banks — and shines a light on the small acts that often go unseen, but make a huge difference within our communities.

By sharing these stories of compassion, connection, and support, we hope to inspire others to take part in creating positive change, however big or small.

Please take a moment to watch and share 💫

Join us for our next Monthly Drop-In Community Support Hub on Wednesday 27th May from 9:30am–11:30am.

Following the success of our very first drop-in session last month, we’re excited to welcome the community back for another opportunity to connect with a range of advisors, support services, and charities — all in one place.

We were incredibly grateful to be joined by organisations including UOK Mental Health & Wellbeing, Marie Curie UK, Together Co, Brighton & Hove Family Hubs , Digital Ambassador, Pharmacy, Voices In Exile, Pelican Parcels, Bridging Change as well as The Trust for Developing Communities who all provided valuable advice, guidance, and support to attendees. We look forward to welcoming even more partners and community members this month.

Come along for a friendly chat, support, information, or simply to find out what services are available to you in the local community. Everyone is welcome!

And now for something completely different...

MEET YOUR FUTURE BESTIES 💛

I’ve had so many conversations with parents recently about September…
and even though we’re excited, there’s always that little voice asking:

❓ Will they know anyone?
❓ Will I know anyone?

I felt it myself the moment our school stay & play invite came through 🥹
So, I’ve created something to bridge that gap…

✨ ‘Meet Your Mates’ – School Starter Sessions ✨

These are relaxed Little City play sessions designed especially for children starting Reception this September - giving them the chance to meet familiar faces before the first day.

And honestly? It’s going to be just as much for us parents too 🤍
☕ Chat, connect, find your people
🧸 Child-led play (no pressure, no awkward icebreakers)
💛 A chance to waltz into September recognising a friendly face (or several!)

📍 Hollingbury (The Old Boat Corner Community Centre)
📅 Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th July

I’ve opened school-specific sessions so you can book the slot that matches your child’s school 👇

🚸 Balfour Primary School
🚸 Hertford Infant School
🚸 Carden Primary School
🚸 and more...

And to round off a very exciting weekend, we'll also be hosting an exclusive, sure-to-sell-out End of Term Party on the Sunday afternoon. Entertainment TBA soon! 🥳

👉 Tickets going live Monday 👀

Spaces are limited within each group, and I’ll adjust sessions depending on demand - so if you’re keen, I’d grab a space sooner rather than later.

If your school isn’t listed yet, let me know - I can always add more 💫

Next week is A Million Acts of Hope Week 💛

A national initiative celebrating the big and small actions that help people feel more connected, supported and hopeful.

Across the country, communities are coming together to create moments of kindness and connection — from simple meetups to larger local events — all showing the good happening around us.

Alongside our regular activities — Memory Café, International Women’s Group, Youth Groups, Old Boat Companions, Food Pantry, Food Bank, Boatopia, Food Uses initiatives, and Community Café — we’re also inviting everyone to take part in something special…

✨ Add your voice to our Hope Wall and share your own message of hope.

Let’s spread positivity, one act at a time 💫
