ABOUT US
Badger Trust is a charity that exists to promote and enhance the welfare, conservation and protection of badgers, their setts, and their habitats. We are the leading voice for badgers in England and Wales, with a network of over 50 local voluntary badger groups, and supported by thousands of supporters and followers. HISTORY
We started as The National Federation of Badger Groups, which wa

s formed in January 1986 and later evolved into Badger Trust in 2005. Despite significant progress made along the way in terms of legal protection for this iconic species, badgers across the UK are under threat more than ever before. WHAT WE DO
Badger Trust runs a number of campaigns to push for a better world for badgers. Our work covers badger culling (proposed, actual or related matters), crimes against badgers, road traffic casualties, planning and development issues that threaten badgers and their habitat, education and badger ecology. Join our clan to help us shout louder for badgers: https://www.badgertrust.org.uk/join

2022 marks the 30th anniversary of the Protection of Badgers Act (1992) and our campaign calls for tougher sentencing for those who commit crimes against badgers. You can take action now to help speak up for badgers. PBA30 Campaign: https://www.badgertrust.org.uk/protection-of-badgers-act

OUR CLAN RULES
This page is a great place for badger lovers to gather, get the latest news and hear the latest updates. We love to hear your feedback, ideas and suggestions and have you engage on our page. All we ask is that users are respectful and keep their posts polite, civil and suitable for all ages. We will not tolerate any content that is offensive or abusive, including material that is obscene, violent, aggressive, argumentative, harassing, defamatory, unlawful, insulting, indecent or otherwise objectionable. This includes any language that can be construed as offensive, sexist, racist or homophobic. Please note that we retain the right to hide or remove any comments that we consider inappropriate. This extends to spamming and any material judged to be off-topic in subject-specific areas. We retain the right to block individuals who repeatedly ignore this policy and post inappropriate content on our page. In these cases, warnings will be given beforehand. OUR MODERATION POLICY
In general, we don’t moderate posts on our page – except when offensive language is used or libellous allegations are made. We have a duty to protect our staff and volunteers, so while deleting comments is the last resort and very unusual, our position is that any post containing libellous accusations should be removed. If an individual continues to post content contrary to Our Clan Rules (as above), we’ll be forced to block that person from the page, but we would prefer not to do this as it detracts from the purpose of our work and takes up our time. Evidence, not false narratives, must shape conservation policy.

Badgers continue to be blamed for complex environmental challenges, from declining bird populations to bovine TB. But what does the scientific evidence actually say?

In our latest article, we examine the claims made in a recent Telegraph article and explain why effective biodiversity recovery depends on tackling the real drivers of nature loss, including habitat destruction, ecosystem degradation and unsustainable land management.

It’s World Environment Day! 🌍🌿

Today is for raising awareness and promoting global action to protect the environment. It’s a call to individuals, communities and governments to take positive steps for the planet’s health and future. Here at Badger Trust, we're celebrating one of the UK’s unsung environmental heroes - the badger!

Often misunderstood, badgers play a vital role in maintaining healthy ecosystems:

🪱 They enrich the soil
🌱 Help plants grow
🐭 Control pests
🌳 Spread seeds
🏡 Create habitats for other wildlife

Every pawprint they leave behind helps shape a more balanced, biodiverse world. 🦡

Let’s protect these ecosystem engineers and ensure they have a safe place in our shared environment.

🦡 The people of Wales have spoken loud and clear

New polling reveals that just 27% of people in Wales support badger culling, while nearly half are opposed. Even more strikingly, over half of respondents said they would be less likely to support a political party that backs culling.

As Wales prepares for a new government, Badger Trust is urging ministers to reject the failed approach seen in England and instead commit to science-led cattle measures that protect both farmers and wildlife.

Over the past decade, Wales has shown that bovine TB can be tackled without killing badgers. The evidence is there and the public support is too.

🌿🦡 Celebrating Badger Group Volunteers 🦡🌿

Behind every sett survey, every rescue call, and every awareness event, there are passionate volunteers dedicating their time to protect one of our most iconic species.

Local badger groups — run entirely by volunteers — are the heart of community-led conservation. From rescuing injured badgers, monitoring setts, to educating the public, they are tireless, compassionate, and committed. This ‘badger army’ is a lifeline for badgers.

One group member shared:
“It is wonderful to be helping badgers with like-minded people who start off as strangers but who end up as good friends.”

❤️ To every local group volunteer — thank you. You are truly amazing.

🌟 Happy National Volunteer Week! 🌟

This week, we’re shining a light on the amazing people who power Badger Trust — from our local badger groups and citizen scientists to fundraisers, Trustees, and office volunteers.

💚 Whether you're out rescuing badgers, recording sett data, fundraising, or supporting behind the scenes, we couldn’t do any of this without you.

Your dedication, passion, and time are everything — and we are truly grateful.

🙌 Thank you to every single one of you for making a difference.

🌈🐾 As Pride Month begins, we want to celebrate love, acceptance, and the vibrant diversity within our badger-loving community.

✨ Did you know that same-sex behaviour has been observed naturally in over 1,500 species of animals? This is your reminder that queerness is not unnatural – it’s very much a part of nature. The natural world often breaks binaries imposed by societal standards, and nature knows no heterosexual or gender binaries.

Just like our badgers, who thrive when their families and setts are protected, we believe everyone deserves to feel safe and valued for who they are, every day of the year.

We stand with our LGBTQ+ supporters, volunteers, and friends, and we’re proud to champion a world where kindness, respect, and equality are at the heart of everything we do.

Let’s carry the spirit of Pride forward as we continue our work for wildlife and each other. 💚🏳️‍🌈

Welcome to our new Trustees

We're excited to announce we have five brand new Trustees joining Badger Trust!

Our CEO, Nigel, had this to say: "We are thrilled to welcome our new trustees, who bring an impressive wealth of experience in business, campaigning, and planning, along with specialised knowledge of badgers and Bovine TB, and insights into the political and campaigning landscape in Wales.

Their expertise complements the skills of our existing trustees. They will be crucial in addressing new challenges in Planning and Infrastructure, as well as in removing Bovine TB from cattle herds, as we work together to end the badger blame game."

Esme, Tim, Jes, Antoine & Samuel - welcome to the clan!
