The Whitehawk Foodbank We provide emergency food for those in crisis whilst fighting to end the need for foodbanks in the UK

We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to people in Whitehawk and the wider East Brighton area who are referred to us in crisis. We are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK. Our foodbank is a

project founded by Brighton churches, working together towards stopping hunger in our local area. The Whitehawk foodbank is a project founded by St Cuthman’s Church, Church of Christ the King (Racecourse Site) and St Peter’s Church, working together towards stopping hunger in Whitehawk and the wider East Brighton area.

As always, our advice services are available for EVERYONE with no appointment needed. However you will need a referral to access the Foodbank or Community Counselling.

We also have our fruit and vegetable stand so that you can pick up some fresh produce, and our cafe which has hot drinks, cakes, and some yummy savoury bits and bobs! This is all provided at no charge, thanks to our incredible donors.

If you find yourself in hardship this week and have no access to food then please call the Help Through Hardship helpline (on slide 4).

Dear friends of the foodbank – our lovely clients, guests, partners, supporters, and volunteers – we unfortunately have a very sad update to share with you all.

The Whitehawk Foodbank is at a critical moment. Due to the unexpected failure of several major funding bids (many of which have supported us reliably in the past) the food bank has run out of funding options.

As a result, the foodbank is at significant risk of closure.

Whilst our future looks uncertain, we are determined to do whatever we can to keep the food bank open. The need for a foodbank in Whitehawk still exists and it would be devastating loss to the community if we were to close our doors.

We have launched a crowdfunder to raise £40,000 - enough to secure the foodbank for the next year and fund one full-time staff member. This role would provide essential coordination, continuity, and stability while volunteers continue to power the day-to-day work.
