We’ve got to do a massive shout out to lifeguard, trainer and trustee of SSSC Kevin, as he’s been working hard all week on delivering our first lifeguard course at Saltdean Lido and on the beach.

It’s a huge step forward for the club 💪🌊❤️

A load of our volunteers are setting off on a relay challenge at Sea Lanes tomorrow.

Come along and cheer if you can. And if you can’t… donate to help support cancer research and Marie Curie.

Help celebrate the 40th anniversary of Swimathon in March 2026 and raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK, Marie Curie, and the Swimathon Foundation. With distances ranging from 500m to 5km there is a challenge for every swimmer!

We’re excited to announce a BEACH LIFEGUARD COURSE run by saltdean swim and surf club.

Saltdean Swim & Surf Club are running a National Vocational Beach Lifeguard Qualification (NVBLQ) starting Monday 6th April.

This is the qualification needed to work as a professional beach lifeguard in the UK, including with organisations such as the RNLI

If you enjoy the sea, fitness, teamwork and helping people, this is an amazing qualification to have.

Mon 6th – Fri 10th April
Assessment Sat 11th April
40 hour course

📍 Location

Training will take place at Saltdean Lido and Saltdean Beach

Cost:
£320 course fee plus
• Surf Lifesaving Great Britain membership SLSGB £36

What you will learn:

🌊 Understanding waves, tides, hazards & rip currents
🌊Sea rescue skills using Rescue Tubes & Surf Rescue Boards
🌊Lifeguard communications including VHF radio
⛑ CPR, Defibrillator use & First Aid
🏖 Beach patrol skills and lifeguard duties

🏊🏻🏃Fitness Requirement

• Swim 400m in under 8 minutes
• Run 200m in under 40 seconds

We had a great morning introducing hopeful new volunteers to the club and our plans for the 2026 season!

It’s great to see a cross section of our community coming together to help support our kiddos and community along our coastline.

Our beach is more than just a place to swim.

It’s where local kids learn confidence.
Where they build ocean skills.
Where they discover respect for the sea - and learn how to stay safe in and around it.

Some go on to race. Some go on to coach. Some go on to be lifeguards along our beaches, pools and coastline.

To help the club to continue to grow, we need more brilliant people to join the team.

This is for people who care about community, our coastline, and keeping children (and adults) safe in our pools and seas.

Roles include:
Beach safety support
Swim & surf coaching
Events & fundraising
Volunteer coordinators
Behind-the-scenes helpers

Either at the beach, in the lido or both!

What a night for Saltdean Swim & Surf Club, a celebration of our Volunteers, Nippers and Youth after another incredible season.

The awards weren’t just about fast swims or strong board paddles; they were about the bravery, growth and team spirit we’ve seen week after week on the beach.

Every one of our kids has pushed themselves, looked after each other, and shown what it means to be part of our ever growing swim and surf lifesaving club.

A huge moment for us this season was celebrating our first fully qualified lifeguard who’s been with the club from the very start. Watching that journey unfold, from those early pool sessions to earning the qualification is exactly what this club is all about, and it’s a massive inspiration for everyone coming through behind them. Congrats Finn!

None of it happens without the people around the kids, so last night was also a big thank you to our volunteers, an amazing group who turn up every week with energy, patience and total commitment, whatever the weather throws at us.

And to our parents: thank you for the early mornings, the wetsuits, the hot chocolates, and for getting your children to the beach on time and ready to go. That support is the quiet engine behind every achievement we celebrated tonight.

So thank you, everyone, members, lifeguards-in-the-making, volunteers, and families. You’ve made this season something special, and we can’t wait to do it all again next year ❤️
