We’re thrilled to announce that we are once again partnered with local artist Arabel Lebrusan, who will be leading a creative session at Harriett’s Press Basement Laundry on Fridays.

She invites you to join the making of Pangea, a collaborative embroidery project exploring extraction, ecology and material histories - back for a second round of communal stitching. 🌍

We're back! Harriett's Press has returned from our summer break and we're proud to start welcoming faces new and familiar to our brand new home.

In case you missed it, you will now now find us in the basement at the Justlife Hub on London Road. This move has tripled our space to bring free laundry and creative activity together, all under one roof. Pop in and put a load of washing on, have a cuppa and try something creative while you wait.

September is nearly here, and so is the next chapter.

From next month, our creative laundry Harriett's Press opens fully at London Road. New participants will be welcome for the first time, and we will mark the moment with a small event to celebrate what the new space makes possible.

It has been a summer of settling in. We took the time to get comfortable in the new space with our existing community first, so that it felt like home before we opened the doors wider.

Behind every load of washing is a person. Someone between homes, or simply without a machine of their own.

For five years, Harriett's Press has been a place where they can get their washing done at no cost, met with a warm welcome and no judgement. The move along London Road does not change that. It lets us do more of it, for more people.

We are on our summer break at the moment, and looking forward to opening fully in September. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this so far. You are the reason it works.

We are building a list of artists we would love to work with.

Harriett's Press has moved to a bigger space, with room for more creative activity alongside the free laundry service. As that side of our work grows, we want to know which artists would like to be involved.

You do not need to have worked in a community setting before. We are open to artists at any stage who are curious and collaborative, and who want to make work alongside the people we serve.

Harriett's Press is taking its usual summer break through August, so things are quieter this month while we plan. It feels like a good moment to reflect on what the move has given us.

The new space was never just about more washing machines. The extra room means Harriett's Press can do more of what it has always wanted to do. There is space now for more people to sit and make things together.

Creativity does not only belong in galleries. 🎨 It belongs in the places people already are. For us, that is a launderette on London Road, between a wash and a spin.

Harriett's Press has never been only about clean clothes. It is about bringing people together and providing access to creative activities. Our recent creative sessions were small examples of what that means in practice, and there is more to come.

This week we finish our July sessions and close for our usual summer break. We reopen fully in September. Link in bio.

: Acts of Transfer (2026)

Thanks to funding from the University of Brighton's Impact Acceleration Fund, we've been working with artists Katy Beinart and Lizzie Lloyd on a reimagined version of their project Acts of Transfer (2021), which uses image and text to reactivate past socially engaged art projects, making visible their legacies to better understand their ongoing effect. Through ‘re-enacting’ the original work - captured as short films - they reflect on the meaning of the work, how the memory of it shifts, and what both artists and participants have taken away from it.

With funding received on Quiet Down There's 10th anniversary, we have commissioned Katy and Lizzie to examine the act of transfer from our previous location at the Open Market to our new home at the Hub; from one laundry to the next. They've been working with three Harriett's Press customers and resident artist Saj Fareed on a series of sessions which capture the feeling of transfer. Drawing from fragments of the Quiet Down There archive, they have been creating a collaborative scripting process using site specific field recordings, film and transcripts from their conversations.

Their outcomes will be shared soon; we're so excited to see the co-created work. Please keep your eyes peeled for further insights.
