Going to work on a Monday...here we go again...
In walked a local resident who trusts me..
Can you help me?
I stop what I am doing as they were really worried...they used to be able to manage but the money was disappearing.
They came armed with a bank statement.
A quick look at Turn To Us benefit calculator told us they were entitled to help.
A call to Housing Benefit stated they were entitled to approximately £127.00 benefit. The were paying £123.00 on £189.00 state pension!
A call to the income team at Brighton & Hove City Council. The person had a £7500 credit on their Housing Account!!!!!!
The resident had not been eating properly, accessing the dentist or unable to buy those they loved gifts at Christmas or birthdays!
Requested a refund and flagged that they should have contacted the resident rather than sit on it!
Dried their tears and made them a cuppa!
Then went back to do what I was meant to do!
Moral of this story......
Hollingdean Community Centre is more than just a building.
Reaching out for the help you need.

Edit....and I made them an appointment with an NHS dentist they could now afford!

Urgent!!!
Remember the 20 only operates to Sainsburys between 10am and 1pm.
Buses should not be saying Sainsburys after this time.
If you see any inaccurate signs please check before boarding.
Please don't miss the bus because if it.
Reports also saying Hollingbury. 20 is Hollingdean

It's Thursday and that means The Hollingdean Real Junk Food Project Cafe are back in the centre are cooking up a storm!
Come along from 12.30pm to grab a bite of lunch and why not pick up a bus timetable while you are here.
Pay as you feel basis served 12.30-1.45pm

Good morning on this Monday and the first full workday of the new route 20 for the residents of Hollilgdean.
We have at the centre the new timetable for the 20 service. These are situated just insisde the left side of the doorway and also further inside.

Good morning great Hollingdean resideants I hope you can enjoy the sunshine.
If you are planning on getting the bus please remember today the route 20 cones into operation.
Same stops round the estate but all change from London Road shops. The bus will no longer serve St Peters and Old Steine heading into town but it will serve Brighton Station.
Getting back you need to board at North Street near The Coal Shed restaurant or D**e Road/Imperial Arcade(Old drop off point).

Wow! Another great community support hub. This months theme was eyes, ears and oral health along side other great services.
Brijesh and Jay did 23 ear checks and advice regarding this. The oral health team were on hand with advice and free toothbrushes! And don't forget those 1st come 1st surveyed goodie bags!
Could'nt make today..... boat will be running on 24th June doing it all again! Watch out for our next months session on 9th July. Same time same place! Any topic you want to see? Drop us a message and we can see what we can do.
