We help people getting engaged with conservation and community development work around the world through volunteering. WorkingAbroad Projects is a not-for-profit company, established in March 2002, in order to provide small scale organisations with need-based support from volunteers. The main areas of focus are: wildlife and habitat conservation, environmental education and management, permacultur

e and organic agriculture and cultural development. We run projects in various countries around the world.

"Having spent two weeks living and working in Heiðmörk I can say that this project was truly an unforgettable experience.

During my time there I personally planted 1,500 trees across several locations at Úlfarsfell and Heiðmörk in all kinds of weather. The work was often hard but very rewarding. Weekends were our days off, which allowed us to relax and enjoy the surrounding area - kayaks and fishing gear were available to use on Elliðavatn.

The staff at the the project are very passionate about the work being carried out, and it was a privilege to have had the opportunity to work with them."

Thank you to Gabe for sending over this review from his time spent last month at our Reforestation Volunteer Project in Iceland. As you can see Gabe had a wonderful time by both helping nature recover in this unique landscape while also having the time to explore and take in its natural beauty. 💙

A geological eccentricity nestled in the middle of the Indian Ocean, the Maldives are a series of ancient coral reefs that grew up around the sides of towering prehistoric volcanoes. World Lizard Day from our Galapagos Conservation Volunteers. 🦎

Little lava lizards are one of many reptile residents in Isabela alongside the giant Marine Iguana. The Galapagos Marine Iguana is the world's only sea-going lizard, and is found on all of the main islands of the Galapagos. Because it is ectothermic, or cold-blooded, and yet feeds in the cool waters of the Humboldt and Cromwell currents, it must warm up by basking in the sun on the black lava rocks, both before and after feeding trips.🇪🇨

Today, we howl for the wolf 🐺

Once feared, hunted, and driven to the edge, wolves remain one of the most misunderstood animals on the planet. On International Wolf Day, we’re celebrating two projects dedicated to their survival.

In the snow-covered Tatra Mountains of Slovakia, volunteers learn the ancient art of tracking — reading paw prints, s**t and signs left behind by wolves and lynx, working alongside researchers uncovering the secrets of the mythic wolf of the Carpathians.

In Portugal, at an ethical sanctuary in the hills near Mafra, volunteers work alongside the team caring for the endangered Iberian wolf, learning what it takes to protect a species still fighting for space in a changing landscape.

Two countries, one shared plight — and volunteers helping write a better chapter for the wolf.
